Bet your on the Carib beer. Enjoy. ;)

Sorry to hear about your mother in law mate. The sooner you can get medical aid to a stroke victim the much better the prognosis, Hopefully she will make a full recovery.

I'm not sure how old your in laws are but you mentioned the husband has recently retired. I took semi retirement early (52) and my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer the following year. Luckily it was spotted early and she made a full recovery. But we took that as a warning not to take anything for granted and we spent the next 7/8 years doing the things we most loved, which was mainly cruising and holidaying down here in Cornwall, before eventually moving down here. I'm so glad we did now because we got to share some special moments. I'm not saying your in laws should up sticks or anything, but I think it's important that they enjoy the moment and live life as full as they can. I'm glad I did.

Do you live in Cork City itself?. My uncle used to live in Castletown Bere in the far west of the county.
Amazing people to be honest Fred, MIL is 60 and FIL is 66, fostered all their lives and gave everyone they could a chance in life, no conditions attached. Three of the "foster" kids are still there now, two well into their 20s and one 19, its home for everyone with kids of foster kids coming for overnight visits etc. FIL worked for 47 years at the same job before retiring 5 1/2 days a week, every week, i only found out the week before he retired that the 1/2 day Saturday morning was overtime which he just always did as part of the routine. He was diagnosed with very early Prostate Cancer about a year ago but thankfully it was just a matter of wiping the prostate out and that was that, no need for further treatment. I agree completely with you, its their time now and they did head for Spain for 3 weeks before Christmas when my FIL retired, so hopefully once they get over this bump they can get back to what they had planned. Talks of buying a place in Portugal were getting stronger recently so we will see what happens.

Im living north of Cork city between Blarney and a town called Mallow, in the countryside around where my wife is from. I am originally from the city though. Castletownbere and that whole West Cork area is absolutely beautiful and a world away from bust city life, the North Atlantic Way along the western sea board really is worth a visit if anyone ever got a chance. For me teh county is so big (in Irish terms) i would be in Dublin in the same time it would take me to get to Castletownbere but i know which one i would prefer to do anyday

Sound like special people your in laws. My old auntie who used to live just outside Naas was the same. An open house. I had an Uncle John, who mum used to refer to as her brother, was just some lad who's parents died when he was young and my maternal grandmother just took in. It was what they did back in the day I suppose.

I actually visited Castletownbere in 1985 when I'd have been in my mid twenties. As you say, a special place that, geologically, is similar to parts of Cornwall where I now live. I don't know what it is like now but at the time it was very rural and untapped by tourism. I remember the local store, that doubled up as the local bar by night, was owned and run by an English girl. I can imagine it being exactly the same as I remember it. if it were in Cornwall it would be a bustling holiday resort now with 70% of the properties own by out of towners or holiday lets.

Anyway, going by some of your posts on here you can tell you've been kissing the old stone a bit too frequently. lol

This made me laugh much more then it should have

Tough weekend tbh as my Mother in law had a stroke on Friday morning, luckily my father in law retired lately as was home as was my sister in law who was working from home so medical help was there quickly and thankfully all is good now and looks like she will make a full recovery.

Watching Everton is tough going at the moment, there really aren't many positives from many games and I thought Duncan made an absolute balls of the team selection on Saturday. Second half covered a lot of a disgraceful first half performance but we can't keep giving sides a 45 min head start.
I'm one of the (un)lucky ones on here in that I can get away from Everton and concentrate on my local side Cork City for some of the week but I can't imagine being stuck 100% in the current Everton quagmire. Our season runs February - November so it's pre season here now but the thought of getting back to live games on a Friday night is very appealing now. Started back with the City podcast as well last night and tbf it's a very enjoyable distraction from life, if a lot of work.

Hope everyone is keeping well and life is good
Sorry to hear your news but sounds as though the outlook is good. Sending my best wishes to you and your family and a virtual ?to Mum in law.

Just read that our interest in Pereira is cooling and that the favourite is now Rooney. Also Alan Myers quoted as saying we should be looking at Galtier and can't understand why we aren't. Knowing Moshiri he's probably thinking he wouldn't fit into one of his corsets. :)

Seriously though, Galtier did a great job at Lille who were in a similar position to us when he took them over so I'd be quite happy with him. TBH I also wouldn't mind a Rooney appointment. But a lot of fans have still not forgiven him for leaving us for United, and the last thing we need right now is the fans still divided over the manager. Maybe a few positive results would get the doubters back on side which, lets be honest, was never really going to work with Benitez.

Thank goodness your Mum in law seems to have had a positive outcome to a traumatic experience.

I hear you 100% about the therapeutic effect of a second team in these troubled times for Everton. Not good for your head to be immersed in an Toffees world right now.

Seems like Periera might have been used as the back up in case the club couldn’t get a more attractive candidate.

Can’t say I would be looking Rooney myself but maybe less of a risk than Vitor. This isn’t a time for risk taking.

At least he knows and understands the league AT. Was also a very well respected player on the world which tends to go far with these bigger named foreign players and especially our youngsters, many of whom would have idolised him not too long ago. So I think he's capable of getting the players behind him which is half the battle..

I agree there is the question mark over his tactical nous and experience, The list of candidates isn't exhaustive though. Personally I'd probably prefer Galtier, but of the ones linked over the last week I'd go for Lampard. I would get 100% behind Rooney though if they went for him, and as long as he get's the lads playing for him and he plays 3 in midfield, I believe we have enough to comfortably get out of trouble and even finish top half.

I would take the Devil himself to manage us now if we stayed up.

You are right about the importance of knowing the league at this point. Lampard and Rooney will both have been eyeing up future jobs as well as watching as fans and there is no one they won’t know about already.

Galtier would be a great option to though but only from Summer on.

If it’s one of the former two, give them 5 years to build something, let them actually form an identity for the club and I will have no complaints.
