Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I'm little tardy to the WW1 conversation seems like it ended awhile ago the one thing I was fascinated by , that I just discovered was that the Black Hand who were catalyst of the war by assassinating Ferdinand were Serbian nationalists not anarchists. In school I was always taught they were a a anarchist organization
Just carry it on mate, I'm still learning loads about WW1 so I appreciate any input.

Morning everyone, hope you're all dandy this morning. Have a good day.

Black hand, I'll have to look that one up.

A teenager started WW1 wow, black hand aka unification or death, Gavrilo Princip his name. Will watch a documentary later.

Princip was a member of Young Bosnia, which was filled with revolutionaries rather than anarchists. They wanted Serbian and Slavic unity amongst other things.

However, it is reported that Princip and the organisation were directed and manipulated by the Black Hand, a secret Slavic society built on militaristic ties.

With the ambitions of the Austro-Hungary/Habsburg Empire, slavic unity was supported by Russia as a way of limiting their expansion, hence how it all spiralled.

As I mentioned earlier my Nan’s brother was taken prisoner, two of her other brothers were killed. I never knew him but my Nan would talk of him sometimes. She said the prisoners were treated so badly that he used to say that he wished he had been killed in action. Their story (both sides) is often forgotten and is worth reading.

My uncle was captured three times and escaped twice ,he was finally liberated by the US troops .He said that the German soldiers were just like them -they wanted to go home -they would smuggle ciggies and stuff in .
An interesting fact was he was the commandant's driver ,he drove the Mercedes ,the reason why was that the allied soldiers when they ambushed a German patrol aimed to kill the driver !!
Sadly before he died he had alzheimer's and only spoke German ,I had no idea he could .

It is, WW1 seems to be an afterthought to Hitler's Germany, it's why I started to look for it. We forget that soldiers on all sides are only doing what they are asked by politicians and are just people like us.

Good morning folks. Still a bit breezy here but I noticed yesterday that the daffodil bulbs I planted last autumn are starting to come up. Spring is on its way! I haven't been required to go to Liverpool. Dad is doing OK, I talked to him last night. My nephew and his daughter had been to see him. She's just had her first birthday and my Dad absolutely adores her. So that had cheered him up no end.
At the gym tonight. I am starting to feel the benefit of getting back into it. My clothes seem a bit looser but it is still like torture. I'm still waiting for this exercise high to kick in. ? ?

Have a lovely day all. By the way, where's @Sassy Colombian .I hope she hasn't transferred to the dark side after they signed a Colombian International!

Today kind of feels like the first day of the rest of our lives after the debacle of the last 7 months. Alli and VDB are the kind of signings we have to make these days, guys with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove but who also have the ability to be very good if they do.

On a side note one of the side effects of Brexit is that Irish players under 18 can no longer join British clubs so yesterday Cork City sent the Irish u17 captain and son of two olympians to AC Milan instead of an English club, times they are a changing

Hello mascoteers!

I hope everyone is doing well. I have been missing coming to the forum the past few days but I’ve been devoting my time on getting ready for my interview which is happening later this morning. I feel very well prepared for it l, so I’m ready to give it my best and tell the committee why im the right person for the job. I decided not to wear a suit because the director that’s hiring for the job usually dresses very laidback and I didn’t want to feel overdressed. So I ended up just wearing a nice shirt with my school colors. And I finished my look with my reading glasses so I look more professional lol

The interview is happening over zoom so I decided to come to my office today so I can concentrate fully.

Later tonight I hope to be able to catch up to this thread and read what you all are feeling about the new manager.

Cheers. Xx
