Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Absolutely bucketed down overnight but a lovely day today. Sun is out and it's quite warm too, about 12 degrees but feels much warmer in the sun. Daffs are just blooming in the field behind us and there was also a couple of rabbits mooching about which I don't often see. Squirrels yes, but not rabbits.

Been out to do my supermarket shop so all set for next 10 days or so. got ingredients in to do a beef in red wine stew and also a lamb curry I like. Will also do another Thai red chicken curry as the last one was delicious. I'm going to try using a powdered coconut milk and see what it's like rather than the tins which are quite expensive. Tonight I'm cooking a spicy chicken fried rice. And yes, it is very very spicy. I marinade the chicken breast in a hot chilly bean sauce. I cook it off first, put it to one side, then add it back in to the fried rice at the end.

The heating engineers are coming this afternoon to sort out my heating and hot water so that's a relief. Hope you all have a good day.

@Methuselah. Has Mrs M had her op yet?. If so, hope everything went OK and she's recovering well. How long is she likely to be in hospital for.

@Terranian. Not heard from you since early yesterday morning mate. hope you're OK and the headaches aren't causing you too many problems.

Think Jazzy is flying back from the Caribbean today so hope you have a safe journey mate, and finally I hope Zassy is able to post again later today. Not sure if it's a 2 or 3 day ban she would have been issued with.
Her indoors has had the biopsies, just awaiting the results. They found some more fluid on her lung and have drained it off. They are also trying to find out why this happened as she had it drained not long ago. We were expecting her to come home today but it appears unlikely. Youngest daughter came round this morning and sorted a load of stuff for me. My back doesn't allow me to get at the fridge which is quite low. So she got rid of all the 'over sell by dates' and updated with new.

In the sixties I worked in Tesco's warehouse in Rawton Road in Kirkdale just as the smallpox outbreak came ,they suspected Fray Bentos corned beef so we had to seal all the tins that had been returned in a cage as they were "contaminated " five years later the review found that it wasn't the corned beef so they opened the cage and flogged the lot .Sell by dates my harass. I read last week somewhere is stopping the use by date on milk .It is the biggest con ever ,it is just to make us buy new ,of course some will go old but most never in the time they give .
Did you know they had sell by dates on cutting discs from grinding machines !!

Just about to board my flight up to the match tomorrow !
Can’t wait to be back.
State of you. It's only 4 hours by car. lol

One of my old clients invited me to a derby match at Anfield and Jimmy Case was doing the hospitality in the lounge. It was a midweek game and I was the first to arrive and we had a good chat whilst waiting for my host and the other guests to turn up. I used to play amateur footie with his brother Frank and I also knew Jimmy's missus because she was from Speke and used to date my brother before he whisked her off. He still lives in Southampton and travels to and from every Liverpool home game by car. Said his record for the journey was 2 hours 35 minutes. lol

Anyway, hope the boys put on a performance for you mate. Which hotel are you saying in?

I’m staying at me dads mate. Not a chance I’m driving up there on a Friday.
I’ve a similar personal best time in the car as well btw. Was a hire car we absolutely leathered there and back in a day once for a derby game.

Flying is about £50 cheaper than the train btw Fred..
Everything is cheaper than the train Toast. It would cost me about £150 to get back to Liverpool from here. It would take about 9 hours and involve 3 changeovers. It just isn't an option for me or for people wanting to come down and visit.

Your mate, Frank Case, wasnt a Blue was he?

Well that was eventful. The heating and water is back on, although it takes about 8-10 hours for the underfloor heating to kick in.

However they had to turn the electrics off to rewire the thermostats. They never warned me and I was in the middle of cooking my jasmine rice. the cooking of which is quite precise. So when the electrics came back on I had to guess how much more cooking it needed. It turned out OK thankfully, not perfect but hey.

Did you keep in touch with him at all?

edit. Or just know what profession he entered?
Not seen him for probably 15 years or so. I thought I may have seen him at my mates funeral I attended when I was up in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago. He wasn't there but a few of his old mates were. It's probably 35 years since I played football with him. Do you think you know him?

My first teacher when I moved down here was a Frank Case, from Liverpool, and a Blue. Him and my Dad became firm friends, but Frank died in his sleep sommet like 10 to 12 years ago. Actually, could be longer ago.

Not a clue what age he was mind. But reckon he would be at least mid 70's if he was still alive.

Different guy mate. Frank's a bit older than us, so probably about 63/64 and from what I understand he's very much still alive.
