So true....We were about 20 at the time Anj. A completely different perspective on life.
I have seen them by a stream river bank growing wild sheltered ....We already have a bog garden where we grow some big Gunnera , not as big as at Trebah in @Barnfred 55 back garden but not too shabby.
OK so here's my initial plant wish list that should suit a jungle garden in NW EnglandSpot on Fred. Doing my research now. Provided it doesn't get below-10 there is quite a bit of choice in tropical.style plants. It is only a small area of about 20 ft x 20 ft , sheltered and South facing.
Sounds very much like our garden that, Jazzy.OK so here's my initial plant wish list that should suit a jungle garden in NW England
Burgmasia in pots
Fig Tree planted
Yellow and Black bamboos planted
Canas in pots
Ginger in pots
Trachycarpus planted
Day lollies planted
Tetrapanax in pot
Dahlias in pots
Echinacea planted
Musa Banana planted
Campsis planted
Traciospernum planted.
It's only a small are but think I need to pack the plants in to give it an enclosed jungle feel. What do you think @Barnfred 55 ?
Bloody hell mate. I'm not David Attenborough ?. You'll need to give me time to Google 2 or 3 of the plant names. At first glance though my stand out concern is planting bamboo in the ground as you may have your work cut out controlling it. A young bamboo is like a young Fred. Rampant. ?OK so here's my initial plant wish list that should suit a jungle garden in NW England

My fear is that Sassy is in self banishment at the moment. Pretty certain her warnings only warranted a 2 day ban.Afternoon messketeers - hope we're all well?
Still on a high from the performance and win on Saturday and my two absolutely loved it.
It was like an awakening for them, seeing an Everton side playing on the front foot and having shots, attacking etc.
I hope we take it into the game tomorrow and the boys turn up for @anjelikaferrett and the other blues going to st James. A win would be brilliant.
One more thing, I can't stop my daughter calling our new gaffer Frankie Lamppost - she's even doing it in the super Frank song, very disconcerting.
Up the toffees!
Also - please free sassy!
Yeah I know they can spread. I'm looking for the clumping variety ( if that's a horticultural term !)Bloody hell mate. I'm not David Attenborough ?. Plant them in rigid plastic containers in the ground. Or have them in pots to move with the mood. Ours are in oversized pots that I get told to move around constantlyBloody hell mate. I'm the same mate. How's your back? lolPlant them in rigid plastic containers in the ground. Or have them in pots to move with the mood. Ours are in oversized pots that I get told to move around constantly
I love and hate spring and summer in equal measure, mate. I'd happily get things sorted and leave them be but as a mere man I know my place. It always looks great and once I have stopped moaning I tend to agree that constantly moving things is great funI'm the same mate. How's your back? lol
Brilliant. And not something you see everyday sadly.Wanted to share this with you all. I was parked waiting for the other half to finish work. An elderly couple, both with mobility issues, walking very slowly, both with sticks, were trying to cross the busy road alongside the car park I was waiting in. They couldn't get off the pavement. A random bloke walking past them stepped into the middle of the road, stopped the traffic and escorted them across. Witnessing that little act of kindness has made my day.
Welcome hone buddyLovely update Blue. Very interesting about how short your spring can be , I have to say it is my favourite season. Hope the elbows better soon.
OK jetlag can be really weird. Knackered when I got back but the slept well. Yesterday was the table tennis league's annual tournament so I had to go ( didn't play) as that's required of the Chair. Said a few hellos , umpires a few games and presented some trophies until about 3pm when I just couldn't keep my eyes open so called it a day.
However by 10pm I was wide awake and then had a fractured night's sleep.
So it feels very cold this morning, is that because it is or because I'm used to 30 degrees of heat?
Did my 2 day covid test , negative of course, so I will pop to the supermarket and re stock mum's pantry and freezer before I go back to the gym and restart my fitness regime ( not looking forward to that after the excess of the holiday).
However the holiday gave me inspiration to create a tropical garden / jungle for my mum so I'm going to start researching that. I already have a banana tree so anything is possible!
Hope everyone is well and we see the return of @Sassy Colombian today. If not we might have to start a campaign to free the Sassy one.
@fandjango great to see you working over in the middle east and @Terrarian look forward to getting an update .
Have a good one everyone.
