Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Sorry to hear about your mum in law LT. But you're right, everybody seems to be getting bad news at the moment.

Not sure about Sassy. Somebody PMd me to say that she's just taking some time away from the forum, but I'm not sure whether that person has actually exchanged messages with her or is just presuming this. Anyway you're absolutely right to say she is sorely missed and I hope she reads this and the get's the clear message.

It's a lovely sunny day down here and I'm going to walk around to see Cal's old workmate. It's a round walk of about 2 miles up and down hills so it's a decent workout and will help burn off the calories of the posh sausage butty I'm planning for lunch. Then I need to get a chicken breast out of the freezer for tonight's Thai Red chicken curry.
Fred did you and Cal talk about food as much as you do now ? because me and mrs B do it all day every day .Enjoy the walk .

Not really Blue. We both loved our food and enjoyed cooking, but we probably didn't cook as often as we would like because we had very busy lives. But since Cal passed away my life has pretty much changed completely except when I'm asleep. I knew I needed a structure to my life, and as food is pretty much a constant it shouldn't really come as a surprise that my life revolves around it at the moment. That's not a bad thing, I enjoy cooking and I enjoy eating it. It's just the way it is at the moment.

Life down here is completely different when the weather changes and I can get out more. Hopefully I'll also have more visitors this year and then my focus will be different. I think food will always play an important part in my life but maybe not quite as much going forward. Having said that I've already got plans for my bbqs once the weather picks up, which isn't that far away now. The barbie normally comes out as early as April.

Afternoon all. Bright and sunny this morning but cold. Was -6°C when I dropped Mr F off at work. The cat decided to go out at 4.35 am. When I let her out, the sky was so clear, there were loads of stars, so I went out briefly for a better look! The cat was made up. I think she thought I was going to stay out and do cat things with her. Not a chance.

Sorry about you Mum in Law @larbert toffee it's an awful condition to have. So sad. Sending good wishes to you and your family.

I am very worried about tomorrow's game. Hopefully we can win and start to build our form back up in the Premier League.

Fred, do you make your own Thai curry paste or do you buy it in? All the ones I have ever bought in supermarkets are pretty rubbish - even with three chillis on the side of the jar denoting hotness they barely scrape a medium heat. Any recommendations? Hope you have a good birthday tomorrow as well - but no doubt we will catch up in here tomorrow. I know, in spite of your planned activities, it will be a tough day for you. we're all here if you need us x

Not much planned for the weekend. Gym tonight after work, followed by Tesco big shop then overtime tomorrow. I'm also thinking about going back into the office for one day a week. I need to have some interaction with 3D real people who I am not related to! I'm still processing that thought though so it might take a few weeks to be enacted.

Have a good day folks

Great that you have adjusted so much to be able to manage and keep a smile for us on here . Have I mentioned cocktail cherries wrapped in bacon on the barbie ?

Morning all. Weathers a bit gloomy down here today. The antibiotics are still working their magic as I continue to improve from my dental abscess. Zero symptoms at all now other than a touch of numbness in my gums. This mornings efforts to swallow the capsule (my 7th) was even more pathetic than usual, with pieces of the capsule getting stuck to my upper mouth thereby making me choke. I really really am a complete wimp. The contents of the capsule don't taste as foul as I remember though, which makes me think I may have had covid without realising and my taste buds are still affected by it. May explain why last nights beef in red wine stew tasted so bloody good. ;)

How are you and the family coping @Methusaleh ? Is Mrs M coming round to the idea of accepting treatment for her condition?

How are you doing @Terrarian.? Still managing your situation?

@NeroCeasar. How's your family coming to terms with your MILs diagnosis?

There's a few others we haven't seen for a while in here that I'm missing already. @Bluetintedspecs, @larbert toffee, @Brett Angell Delight, @tommye, and @Harryflashman. Hope you're all keeping well and we hear from you in here soon. ;) Edit. Plus Sassy of course but that goes without saying. Which is why I didn't say anything. lol

Hope everybody else has a good day. Having a smoked mackerel salad for lunch and a second go at the beef stew tonight. In between I'm going to try on a few more of my old clothes and see if anything else fits.
Hey Fred,

Thank you for the shoutout! I feel like forum royalty.

The last few weeks has been a blur so I’ve completely lost track of this thread. I was away for a few days with friends as a pre-birthday treat and then back in Liverpool last week for a family party which was amazing. This week has been spent scrambling to catch up on work, gym, etc so I feel like I’m only now starting to settle down.

I hope everyone is well in here. I caught @Methuselah ’s awful news. I hope everyone there is coping as best they can with it all.

I’ve skim read a few bits since then and see that @Sassy Colombian is taking a break? Obviously sad for us, but a break from any form of social media is needed now and again, so good for her, for prioritising her mental health.

My missus is out on her deferred Chrimbo do tonight, so I’m gonna lead my boys astray for a bit and then settle down to a horror movie and maybe even a cheeky rum or two. Don’t be too alarmed if I’m in here talking (more than usual) broken biscuits later on.

Hi Fred and everyone else in here.

Thanks for asking after me. I've been really busy and have spent just about all my spare time over the last week or so redecorating the bedroom of on old lady who lives near me. The walls were covered in woodchip wallpaper, which was an absolute bstrd to get off. Awful stuff.

She's a widow, and told me her late husband put paste on both the wallpaper and the wall to make sure it stayed on. "Well, he certainly did a good job," I said through gritted teeth. She kept popping in to see how it was going, but it was really an excuse to have a chat. She also provided lots of tea and dark chocolate digestives, which provided much needed sustenance for my woodchip hell.

Hope everyone's having a good day. I'm having a woodchip-free day, which is bliss. Currently having a couple of Choco Leibniz biscuits, washed down with Yorkshire tea.

We're all royalty in this thread mate. ;)

Her indoors went to hospital to get the biopsy results. Daughter took her. Afraid it was the worst possible news. She is determined that she is not going to do chemo, she is just going to let it run its course. Devastated.
Really sorry to hear this mate.

Hard to know what to say at times like this but you know this gang of Mascoteers are kind genuine people who are always there to listen and support.

If any of us can help in anyway please just ask here or on DM.

I buy in my Thai curry paste Anj. I know what you mean though about the heat. I normally spice mine up by slicing some fresh chillies and throwing them in too. Red chillies for the red curry and, not surprisingly, green chillies for the green curries. I use the Blue Dragon spice mixes which most big supermarkets sell these days I think.

Had Thai green prawn curry for a pub lunch today and it was very pleasant indeed.

The lad at the table beside us was on his own and we got chatting. He had lived 3 years in Thailand as it happens and he gave the curry high praise.

He also gave me a geography lesson on Thailand and how the Southern part prefers hotter curries than the North of the country.

All very interesting stuff especially when you think I just nipped in for a couple of pints and the pub’s special.

Hi Fred, been watching from afar, busy doing a few extra hours at work and resting up whilst being a prisoner in our own home due to the bad weather.

Managed an evening out last night in lieu of Valentines Day which I'm working, Mrs LT and I were out in Falkirk for a few drinks and a nice meal at a Himalayan restaurant.
My mum in law has just been diagnosed with Parkinsons disease so last last night was a little break from that scenario which the family are just coming to terms with, she's very quickly gone from being a strong independent woman to a frail lady needing almost daily attention.

Sadly there's so much bad news about, everyone seems to have something going on and my thoughts are with those whom are currently preoccupied with care or caring for others.

How are things with you Fred? You're planned and current meals are certainly making my mouth water.

Could you tell me what's happened to Sassy? I followed things back to the spat regarding Mina, is she taking a sabbatical?
She is such a positive force of nature throughout the site, she is sorely missed.

I am going to rest up before my evening shift and help with the domestic chores, I hope everyone has a good day out there.
Great to hear from you LT.

Hope your parents are ok , love Himalayan food BTW
