Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Well the metal guttering has been blown off part of the roof, the contents of my bins are everywhere and the garage doors are like a steel band with the rain hammering off them.

Too dangerous to go out and do anything about it as there is branches and stuff flying everywhere.
Same here AT.

We've had 60 + mph winds for almost 36 hours really quite frightening.

Not been out of the house since midday yesterday just way too windy.

All the outdoor animals are locked in their stable and using my binoculars can see that the doors remain closed.

The forecast is for the wind to abate to about 25mph by mid afternoon.

So, just going to wait for the wind to die down and torrential rain that we've had for 2 days to stop and then go out and inspect the damage.

We are on flood alert with our local river. Its only 100 metres away but fortunately we are about 10 metres above river level and when it floods ( last flooded 5 years ago ) it does so onto the other side of the river bank and onto the West Lancs flood Plain.

3 storms in a week, its absolutely mad.

Stay safe everyone

We have certainly been through the wars this past week weather wise.

Roofers will make a clean fortune over the coming days.

Oh "if you know your history". David Kennedy has written about the split with Houlding. He was a Conservative, anti-Irish Home Rule, Orange (you might need to read up on the Orange Order) greedy bigot. Our directors voted to leave him behind and moved to Goodison Park where there was an open welcome for all.

In the 40s we had about 7 key members of the squad from the Republic of Ireland. The RS had none. When southern Irish immigrants arrived in Scotland Road, there was only one team to support.

Everton played a friendly against Shamrock Rovers every year from about 1966 to 1973 or 4.

My hero, Peter Farrell and Tommy Eglinton were signed together from Rovers

It is not that Everton is the Irish Catholic team. It is about tolerance of all, which the red cult still seems to find difficult.

Nevertheless, there are lots of Irish who follow the dark side. I find it difficult to understand given their history.
Thanks @Bluerover I'm glad you know your history and are sharing it with us.

What's the history with the dark side and why it is difficult to understand Irish following them?

Hello friends.

I hope everyone that's dealing with the high winds manages to stay safe. I've never realized that you all have to deal with such bad storm winds, those can be such scary experiences and so rough on our houses. I'll be thinking of you throughout the day and would keep an eye on your updates.

Here in Asheville is a cold morning -2°C and still very dark but it is supposed to warm up near 15°C, all week it is going to be super cold in the mornings but we will have spring temperatures by midday along with some rain. That's usually the weather pattern in Asheville during this time of the year, it teases you with warm spring temperatures at the end of February but winter is far from over for us and then once March comes it hits us with frosty and snowy weather again.

This week I have to stop in person by the College to sign the papers for my new position, I'm super excited about it but today I've also began feeling nostalgic about leaving my current department and team. I have the best boss and coworkers and they have been my working team for the past four years so I'm going to miss them so much. I have yet to tell anyone that I gotten the job, HR asked me to wait until I sign the papers before notifying any of my co-workers. This week I'm also going have to go to my old office and clean up, I don't go often to campus because my job since the pandemic began has been fully remote, but this new position is not. So I'll have to switch offices and I'll probably start going to campus regularly once I change jobs. It is going to be such a big change for our family but I'm ready for the challenge.

Happy week everyone! xxx

We have a lot of Irish Everton followers, how did that happen?

Nice, I haven’t been to the cinema since Covid began but I’ve missed the experience. Hopefully we’ll be retuning soon too. Belfast sounds like a great movie, one that I would be interested in watching. Glad to hear you had nice outing.
It's quite historical Sassy how we have so many Irish supporters and it all goes back to the potato famine in Ireland.
Many Irish emigrated including my ancestors on my mother's side and many settled in Liverpool.
When I was at High school on Merseyside during the seventies the majority of surnames in my class were of Irish origin.
I was down 3 or 4 years ago on St Patrick's day for a game against Chelsea, after the game and bearing in mind it was a Sunday, the amount of Irish we met who had come over just for the night out in Liverpool was remarkable and the nightscene was bouncing.
I love the fact Everton has an infinity with Ireland and the fact we have so many Irish supporters from both sides of the border.
our own @Armaghtoffee being a fine example.

Good luck Sassy.

No doubt you will have mixed feelings. Not working with old colleagues, forging relationships with new colleagues.

However , of course you will be able to maintain friendships , its not like you are moving away.

New situations throw up new opportunities. Opportunities for self and career development.

Look forward to it , embrace it . Accept and enjoy the change , nothing stands still we all have to constantly change and adapt.

I know you will be fabulous in your new role and feel a real sense of self fulfilment.

Very best of luck , but you won't need it.
