Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Sometimes I also just enjoy reading instead of posting.

Ange, Did you ended up completing the job application? What sort of job is it? Also in public service?
Yes I did apply. It is a public sector job, working for the Ministry of Justice in the diversity and inclusion team. I genuinely don't think I'll get it because all of my experience has come as a Trade union rep rather than HR. As soon as you mention unions they immediately become suspicious and think troublemaker! It's annoying because I know I have all all the right experience. Hope you don't think I'm bigging myself up but In my last job, I got a policy adopted across the whole organisation on how to deal with menopause in the workplace, I've just helped HR write guidance on how to support staff in the workplace who are thinking about or undergoing gender re-assignment, I was the go to union rep for disability related matters such as reasonable adjustments and I have done loads of work on family friendly policies. I organised mental health awareness sessions for the men in my office with a local men's health peer support group that was so positively received. So I know I can do the job. Fingers crossed. Nothing ventured , nothing gained!

Well the metal guttering has been blown off part of the roof, the contents of my bins are everywhere and the garage doors are like a steel band with the rain hammering off them.

Too dangerous to go out and do anything about it as there is branches and stuff flying everywhere.
Hope you're all OK and not too much damage

Despite my earlier misgivings about the weather I ventured out to the gym this morning.

Huge flooding and tree damage locally but fortunately none to the Jazzy small holding.

Stopped raining now and the wind has dropped a little but still some big gusts.

Playing last ping pong league match of the season tonight ( Cup starts next week ) . I wonder given that we wo the league last week whether we will get a guard of honour as we enter the hall tonight... perhaps not!

Not heard from many of the usual gang today so hope @Barnfred 55 , @anjelikaferrett , @Gwladysover and everyone else are OK.
Good luck with your ping pong league match tonight, Jazzy. What does it mean that the the Cup begins next week, would you be playing?

I'm glad you read that venture to the gym went well and that your small holding was spared from flooding and tree damage. I have not venture to the gym since last week. I am dealing with some bad pain on my right foot because of plantar fasciitis so I have been taking it easy for a few day but hope to return by Wednesday. I really miss my workout routines but I know it is important to listen to your body when is asking for a break to avoid more injury.

Bloody hell mate. I've been away from the thread for less than 24 hours and you're sending out search parties lol

I just happen to be catching up on the humongous amount of posting that's happened in my short absence. Great to see the thread being used by so many people. Messy would be delighted at this. Not surprised in the slightest that a fair number of them happen to be Irish. My second favourite person of all time was Irish. Good people. ;)

Weather not been anywhere near as bad down here as you have been getting it. Just very windy. Sun shining today and the daffs are out in force in the garden behind. I'll try and get a picture to post but it probably won't do them justice.

Have a good day everyone. Those that are suffering or who have loved ones that are suffering, I hope these pages bring you as much relief and enjoyment as they do for me. ?
Ha ha sorry Fred , just you know , bad things can happen o this weather.

Anyway good to know that you are OK.

Yeah I make you absolutely right ,I think Messy would have loved how the thread has developed and become a natural home for so many of us.

It's a blessed relief not to chat about Everton , as well.

That is a very painful condition and one that I've had a rehabed from.

So far as my ping ping is concerned think football. Because of the pandemic and threat of further restrictions we played all our league matches over a period of 5 months.
Next week we start the league Cup and 2 weeks after that the equivalent of the FA Cup. However to make it fair in our version of the FA Cup it is handicapped so all teams of whatever ability have a chance of winning. So if for instance my team play a 3rd division team we have to give every player on their team a 20 or 30 point start in each match.

Now I'm seriously jealous, I want spring my way too. Glad to hear you are having nice weather in your area and the high winds have stopped bothering you ?
Still very windy Sass. 50-60 mph gusts, and has been all over the weekend. But that isn't unusual down here during winter. But we haven't been getting the volume of rainfall the guys up North have had to endure. Just the odd shower.

Ange, I have gotten to know you enough since joining the forum, and the important job you have done as Trade Union rep, to know that you are not bigging yourself and hopefully the people at the Ministry of Justice will see what a valuable asset you would be to their diversity and inclusion team. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you too. xxx

Sound like the job was made for you anje...Good luck with the application.

Hello everybody. Quick catch up while I'm at lunch. On the Irish Evertonian thing, nearly every priest I knew ( and one bishop) were all mad Evertonians. My Dad said that in the 1950s The Main stand at Goodison would be full of Irish priests who followed the Irish players we had at the time.

Hope you have all survived the winds without too muc damage. We had heavy rain last night but nothing compared to what others have experienced. I think we've been a bit too far north and east for Franklin to really have a go at us. My poor daughter is having an early midlife crisis. She's 25 in August and feels life is passing her by. She is very organised and loves a plan and apparently ahe had planned to move out when she was 25 and she wants to have babies soon as well (gulp!) None of this is coming true "I'm just going to end up like Bridget Jones and die alone with my cats" was her parting remark. I was very sympathetic whilst resisting the urge to laugh at that bit. I think she wants a bit more commitment from her boyfriend who is 32 and divorced with a 5 year old son. Not huge amounts but she hasn't met any of his family yet after 18 months although she has met his son a few times. Doesn't help that her two besties are both settling down with their boyfriends.

You never know Anj. An old mate of mine from the bank was a Union Rep. He was subsequently seconded by the bank to the union (at the time was BIFU and now part of Unite) and had to move down to London. After about 2/3 years in his new role the Bank took him back into a senior position within HR, on probably about 5 or 6 pay grades above his previous position with the bank. lol

I have not heard of 23 and me, may have to check it out. Are you happy with the information it provided you? So based on your DNA where did the population spread besides the UK?

My husband and I have also been very interested in our genetic background. Last year I received as a gift a DNA collection kit that I though to use for myself to learn more about my DNA heritage. But I have been considering it having my daughter use it instead, and by doing so we can instead learn through her DNA heritage about my husband's and I through hers. We are going to be send it this week and once we receive the results I will share them with you all.

Glad to read you had a good night of sleep last night and may the trend continue for the rest of the week, and year :)
Really happy with the information they gave me, my family are very literally spread to all corners of the earth.
What is also interesting is it is your choice to submit the main surnames that you know of throughout your family, you can then see the people with your DNA and you can click on a page which shows you how that person is related to you on a family tree.
I was given it as a Christmas present, my youngest daughter who is a science geek had already used it but she was then tkeen to know which of her genes were from which parent.
The first thing I discovered was my daughter was my closest recorded relative with them and had 49% of my DNA, then I realised my missus always has to go one better??
