Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I’m okay thanks, J. Just catching up with you all now as things been a bit hectic so far, helping to repair fence along with usual chores. Also my elderly neighbour rang to say she was worried about a phone call she’d received about her washing machine insurance. Turned out they were scammers, she thought they were genuine at first as she has washing machine insurance so gave her bank card details but fortunately refused to give her date of birth. I called the bank and no money was taken because one of the security questions is date of birth which of course they didn’t have. B*st***s!
Glad to hear the scammers didn’t get away with stealing money from your elderly neighbour. I hate how vulnerable the elder can be to such scams. It is upsetting that people resort to stealing from the vulnerable just because they are too lazy to work and want to make easy money out of other people effort. At the College where I work we recently found out that scammers pretending to be employers were stealing information from our students through their Resumes ?

Folk are too trusting, and are vulnerable at certain times. Emotionally vulnerable I mean.

When I was delivering parcels, we heard of a Mothers Day scam. (What Mum doesnt want flowers that day?) Ergo, emotionally vulnerable.

Courier would say they needed £2.50 as a delivery fee, (no real courier ever asks for that, but why would 80 year old Ethal know that?) So, one swipe of a debit card, (Its only a few bob), bank account emptied in minutes.

Those who take advantage of emotional vulnerable people are even more disgusting human beings. How can someone have the consciousness to steal money from a mum on Mother’s Day ? Those are the people that need to be vanished from society and kept behind bars.

When we moved away we left behind a bigoted anti-Catholic Houlding and his first manager of the rs, McKenna, although from Monaghan, was also an Orangeman.

It would take too long to explain about the Orange Order, that is why I suggested you Google the history.

While Everton was open to all, for some decades the rs did not welcome Irish Catholics.

There is still a hardcore contingent in the rs support although I think it is diminishing.

I know an Irish rs who got abused by his fellow rs fans some years ago when they discovered he was from the Republic of Ireland.

I have never met anything like that in all the years I have followed Everton. I have met all sorts of people who follow the Blues but never seen any animosity towards us.
First Irish Catholic signed was Ronnie Whelan in 1979 (googled that). That's an awful lot of years of 'not' being bigoted. ? They have been arseholes from day one!

Okay, I’m going to take your advise and Google it and read more about it. But thanks for telling me about it here. I didn’t realize the discrimination Irish Catholics suffered by the rs. Such animosity doesn’t belong in sports or any aspect in life. No wonder why they the rs and their fans have such a bad reputation.
We have had 30 from the Republic and 11 from the North. I think the highest of any Premiership Club. The rs are nowhere near that.

In the 40s we had a huge part of the first team squad. No wonder the southern Irish immigrants at that time supported Everton.

I had heard that but was unsure. If true, that is incredible.

Steve Heighway was born in Dublin but I think his background was English. A great servant for Ireland in fairness.

Dont disagree, obvs. But like the drugs trade, the ones who do the dirty work are pawns in a larger game. A game that will eventually dawn on them. If not, then they are really thick.

Using pretend numbers, think about it. You are the top guy. Provide a van, the flowers, the addresses, the scanners to say 20 lads. 80 visits each a day is four hours work. Maybe five. The 20 lads scam £100,000 each. In a day. Reckon thats conservative personally.

So the lads get paid say £2000 for a 5 hours day......

Thats £1.6 million profit, (less vans etc), in a day.

So. Where, (and why) is that money actually going????

I was intrigued at how long the 'Orange' influence had lasted as I had never noticed any sectarianism element around football in Liverpool when I was there other than the general anecdotal talk of Everton being Catholic and them being Protestant. I dismissed it because of our St Domingo Methodist roots. A quick Google came up with the 1979 stat (two sources) but it is the internet so may be wrong.

I remember the Celtic-Rangers chants in the Street End, and Celtic was always by far the loudest. The half and half Everton/ Celtic bobble hats were far more numerous than the Rangers version.

Please don't misunderstand me. One of my best friends is an East Belfast loyalist....pals for 35 years. He was at our wedding on the 11th July :) He was looking for an Irish flag to burn ahead of the 12th.

He is a Spurs fan and I love the mad bloke to bits.

Everton has always been a Club that welcomed all faiths and none. However, I have previously posted that our lack of welcome for non white players is a stain which thankfully we have erased. The chants in the 80s were horrible.

The cult that is now the rs seems to have left their sectarianism behind but instead has embraced a new form of obsession.

As the expression goes, we may not have your trophies but we will never have your shame.

Everton remains an all People's Club. That shower is a mutant's cult.

I do remember the Celtic-Rangers syncronrised chants. They were light-hearted and each took turns. It's actually really easy to get on with someone with opposing views. Easy source of banter. All you need is the ability to laugh at yourself.
Stevie and I met in Copenhagen while interailng in 87. He was fed up listening to the Eurailers who were quite painful in fairness. He saw me as an obvious Paddy.

He was following the Glens in the UEFA Cup to the blinking Arctic Circle - Rovaniemi!!

On the overnight to Stockholm -yes the train went on the ferry, the two of us were in one old style 6 seater compartment. I had cans, he had bottles. But I had a Swiss army knife. After some lively debate when he said Seawright was correct that all Fenians should be incinerated, he then turned to me and asked politely if he could borrow my opener :)

Later a Swedish gent joined us. I explained that I was from Dublin and Steve from Belfast and on opposite political sides. It was hilarious to see the blood drain from his face. I think he expected outright war.

As I said earlier, we have remained great friends for nearly 35 years.
