We have had 30 from the Republic and 11 from the North. I think the highest of any Premiership Club. The rs are nowhere near that.

In the 40s we had a huge part of the first team squad. No wonder the southern Irish immigrants at that time supported Everton.

And Bootle, where your heroes (and my dad’s!!!) Eglington and Farrell had lots of connections I think, was massively Irish and Catholic.

Yes but never sectarian. Houlding had a different philosophy. Everton opened its arms to all faiths. We embraced anyone who wanted to wear the RBJ

I had my first good night's sleep which helps and I feel I'm now starting to shake it off, losing my voice now though?

When we moved away we left behind a bigoted anti-Catholic Houlding and his first manager of the rs, McKenna, although from Monaghan, was also an Orangeman.

It would take too long to explain about the Orange Order, that is why I suggested you Google the history.

While Everton was open to all, for some decades the rs did not welcome Irish Catholics.

There is still a hardcore contingent in the rs support although I think it is diminishing.

I know an Irish rs who got abused by his fellow rs fans some years ago when they discovered he was from the Republic of Ireland.

I have never met anything like that in all the years I have followed Everton. I have met all sorts of people who follow the Blues but never seen any animosity towards us.

I was suprised by a Scots lad from Glasgow who supported Liverpool just because Everton were the "Catholic team" ,he surprised me when he told me all or almost all of our chants were set to "Irish" tunes .

I think myself after watching various documentaries and series that what happened in the whole of Ireland is too important to have odd comments on here and will eventually lead to a more hateful attitude by someone or other , that is not what Karl would have wanted .I respectfully ask that if this is the case that whoever is involved desists and opens another thread ,where we can discuss it in detail .

Can't remember whether I mentioned that my washing machine packed in the other week. Well finally got around to ordering a new one. The full linen basket gave me a prompt. Okay, I’m going to take your advise and Google it and read more about it. But thanks for telling me about it here. I didn’t realize the discrimination Irish Catholics suffered by the rs. Such animosity doesn’t belong in sports or any aspect in life. No wonder why they the rs and their fans have such a bad reputation.

Don't be so hard on their fans as half of them are from Norway.

Balance sheet wouldnt be though. Thats the reality of modern footie. Most likely made an accounting profit on both of them, (plus wages gone, obvs), but that said, agree.

The beauty of being a fan compared to the accountant. We have to remember he was injured a lot as well.

Morning guys, not much to report been a pretty dull and boring few days.

On scammers, I used to work for consumer direct and a lot of calls we would get would be from elderly and vulnerable people telling us about phone scams or rogue traders and hard cold sellers of the door to door variety. Having done that job I know what scamming sh*ts they are. Done some very dodgy sales jobs when I've been out of work in the past and end up walking out when I figure out what's going on.

Some very unscrupulous people about.
