Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

This could be a long reply ,a lot to tell.
I have learned a bits of history about it from reading other posts, but I'm willing to read a long reply to learn more.

BTW, as you know I have been keeping up with the winter Olympics and cross-country skiing. Today I read another story about a Finnish skier and I can only say ouch, for what he had to endure. I'm sure you, along with all the other lads are going to feel bad for him too. But I think it is great that he came out and spoke about this issue.

It's quite historical Sassy how we have so many Irish supporters and it all goes back to the potato famine in Ireland.
Many Irish emigrated including my ancestors on my mother's side and many settled in Liverpool.
When I was at High school on Merseyside during the seventies the majority of surnames in my class were of Irish origin.
I was down 3 or 4 years ago on St Patrick's day for a game against Chelsea, after the game and bearing in mind it was a Sunday, the amount of Irish we met who had come over just for the night out in Liverpool was remarkable and the nightscene was bouncing.
I love the fact Everton has an infinity with Ireland and the fact we have so many Irish supporters from both sides of the border.
our own @Armaghtoffee being a fine example.
Mrs Js father a Mulrooney ( and you don't get much more Irish than that surname) was on Evertons books just after the war but never made a senior appearance.

Used to love chatting to him about football. I think they had a very different view if the rivalry. Although he was an Evertonian he used to watch the RS when we were away.

Anyway , how are the covid symptoms LT?

Thanks for sharing this story, LT. Does other PL teams have a lot of Irish followers or is this connection mostly with Everton?

Did all of your family migrated fully to the UK or do you still have family in Ireland?

Stay confident Sassy, you will smash your new job and I've no doubt your current employers will miss you.
Awe, thanks LT. But my current employers won't be missing me because I'm staying working at the same College :) I'm just changing departments, roles and employment status (for the past four years that I have worked at the College I have been a part-time employee getting only hourly wage. I currently get no benefits at all, no paid sick time, vacation, health/dental insurance, or retirement savings) but once I become full-time I will be receiving full benefits.

Despite my earlier misgivings about the weather I ventured out to the gym this morning.

Huge flooding and tree damage locally but fortunately none to the Jazzy small holding.

Stopped raining now and the wind has dropped a little but still some big gusts.

Playing last ping pong league match of the season tonight ( Cup starts next week ) . I wonder given that we wo the league last week whether we will get a guard of honour as we enter the hall tonight... perhaps not!

Not heard from many of the usual gang today so hope @Barnfred 55 , @anjelikaferrett , @Gwladysover and everyone else are OK.

I had my first good night's sleep which helps and I feel I'm now starting to shake it off, losing my voice now though?
Got my holiday moved this morning which is one less worry, now going late April.

Arsenal do. A lot of Irish worked on building the M1 Motorway, (Interstate), which was completed when it hit the Northern suburbs of London. Loads made their home there, and supported Arsenal as a result.

I don't know any of my family who are still in Ireland, they would be very distant now.
I joined '23 and me' last year and they show you where the population with your DNA are, it is so interesting and shows how my family have spread all over the globe.

Good luck Sassy.

No doubt you will have mixed feelings. Not working with old colleagues, forging relationships with new colleagues.

However , of course you will be able to maintain friendships , its not like you are moving away.

New situations throw up new opportunities. Opportunities for self and career development.

Look forward to it , embrace it . Accept and enjoy the change , nothing stands still we all have to constantly change and adapt.

I know you will be fabulous in your new role and feel a real sense of self fulfilment.

Very best of luck , but you won't need it.
You put it so well, Jazzy and you are so right! I'll definitely maintain my current friendships and create new ones in my new department. While also embracing these new opportunities for self and career development, because I know I have a lot more to offer to my College and its student population. This job is exactly the path to some career fulfillment that I have been missing from my life since I became a mother and decided to fully focus on raising my daughter over prioritizing my career. But after a decade being fully devoted to motherhood I feel it is time for me to steer a bit of attention to other vocations :)

Bloody hell mate. I've been away from the thread for less than 24 hours and you're sending out search parties lol

I just happen to be catching up on the humongous amount of posting that's happened in my short absence. Great to see the thread being used by so many people. Messy would be delighted at this. Not surprised in the slightest that a fair number of them happen to be Irish. My second favourite person of all time was Irish. Good people. ;)

Weather not been anywhere near as bad down here as you have been getting it. Just very windy. Sun shining today and the daffs are out in force in the garden behind. I'll try and get a picture to post but it probably won't do them justice.

Have a good day everyone. Those that are suffering or who have loved ones that are suffering, I hope these pages bring you as much relief and enjoyment as they do for me. ?

I have not heard of 23 and me, may have to check it out. Are you happy with the information it provided you? So based on your DNA where did the population spread besides the UK?

My husband and I have also been very interested in our genetic background. Last year I received as a gift a DNA collection kit that I though to use for myself to learn more about my DNA heritage. But I have been considering it having my daughter use it instead, and by doing so we can instead learn through her DNA heritage about my husband's and I through hers. We are going to be send it this week and once we receive the results I will share them with you all.

Glad to read you had a good night of sleep last night and may the trend continue for the rest of the week, and year :)

All good , except the losing your voice bit. Hope that your mum and dad remain well.
My mum won't get any better but my Dad has made a good recovery thanks, we managed to convince him it was time to give up driving which he has reluctantly agreed to.
He is 87 next month, mentally he's sharp as a tack but physically he finds even walking difficult which really frustrates him as he's a grafter, but give him his due he's not complaining and is happy with his lot and still has a good sense of humour.
