Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

We don't have piped gas in most of the country ( only in some cities) so it is a surprise to me .I thought our power plants were nuclear .

I hadn't realised either their involvement in Nordstream and apparently Russia built a huge nuclear power station for you in 2014 ( after they annexed Crimea.)

Love it. After the cake shop I got a job in Littlewoods in town, I got £5.25 for a Saturday but during the summer we got loads of extra days to cover holidays - the Saturday staff were all either at school or students so we were off anyway. I remember I earned about £30 one week. Never been as well off before or since. Of course I was only 16 so had yet to discover men and booze so didn't really have a lot to spend it on! Not sure if you remember the painters who used to sell the work on the railings at BlueCoat Chambers behind Littlewoods. I did buy a painting from one of them for £4. I can see it on my wall from where I'm sitting now. I'm still waiting for him to be discovered! ? ?
Yes I remember those along the railings never had enoughh money tho'.Have googled him yet ?

Firstly this is a U.S. site and I am not sure it is a good interpretation of the business Finland does ,it is a small population that was governed by Russia once before until just over 100 years ago .
Of course they have to do business with them but generally they hate the Russians ,the lack of membership in NATO is two fold , one they are not a North Atlantic country and two the cost would outweigh the benefits .
You must understand that they realise their geographical position and the threat Russia poses ,just look at Ukraine ,so Finland wants to try and keep three balls in the air .
Yes they do still have conscription but I don't see that has anything to do with buying shares in the pipeline .
So I do believe that Fortum has answers to give us but the politics are different here in so far as it is a coalition and will remain so for the foreseeable future meaning all are answerable ,therefore there will be actions taken if this is indeed a problem .
The Finnish government and people are honest and transparent so I am sure that this article will be addressed if needed .

Just reading up on CEPA ,they do seem to be a bit Daily Mailish to be fair .

Morning all, hope everyone is well. The mornings are getting lighter and it was a beautiful pink dawn here. Early morning is my favourite time of the day. Daughters are a joy @Sassy Colombian and @anjelikaferrett but also a worry. My daughter was always more trouble than my son, in most ways completely different from me. I used to say to her during our “discussions“ I hope you have a daughter, then you will know… She has two and although they are only 8 and 5 she “knows”lol. Have a good day everyone.

Morning lovely people, I hope you are all well.

In my clear up from Storm Franklin I somehow managed to pull a muscle in my back which is proving rather limiting ?. Hopefully another couple of days of walking like a zombie will see me back to myself.

@anjelikaferrett @Gwladysover @Sassy Colombian while enjoying hearing your stories about your daughters, it makes me very relieved to have sons ?

I have googled him. Tony Flanagan he was called. I've also looked on ebay. Two of his paintings for sale - on huge one for £50 and one smaller one - similar size to mine at £27.50. One of his paintings was also sold at auction in 2019 for £10. Don't think I'm going to fund my retirement with the sale of my painting! ? ?

Ouch. Hope your back gets better soon. Back pain is horrendous. I got sciatica once and thought it was the worst pain I have ever experienced - including childbirth!

Daughter seems much more chilled today. She worked in her office yesterday and I think she used it to have a good vent to one of her mates who was also there.

Sciatica is different level pain. I had it constant for 18 months and it was horrendous until they got the pain meds right.

Good news on your daughter. It really is good to talk and all that.

Charlotte is the polar opposite to me. She is very tidy, loves to be organised, likes to have a plan. The worst thing I can say to her is something like "Well, let's just see what happens" I am organised in that I know where I'm supposed to be and what I should be doing at any given time but I have no issues if it changes. And I'm very untidy. My union desk was a mass of papers seemingly flung all over the place - but I did know where everything was!

Hi everybody. Hope you are having a good day. I've just filled my car up with diesel for the weekend trip to Liverpool - we are definitely going this weekend, storms or no storms! £84. That is just outrageous. I've never spent so much money on fuel in one go ever. Made even worse when you look at the profits the likes of BP and Shell have just declared. I'm feeling very ( even more) anti- establishment today. They are playing us for fools. And as for making the Queen do light duties when she's got COVID. Regardless of your stance on the monarchy, she's 95 years old. Let her stay in bed and watch horse-racing.

Anyway in other news feeling quite sorry for Gbamin. I hope his move works out for him. The poor lad has had a nightmare while he's been with us. It must be soul-destroying to have so many injuries. I read DCL's interview saying how horrible he felt when he re-injured himself. Imagine if that had gone on for two years like Gbamin.

@Sassy Colombian the transition from old to new job sounds like it should be very smooth. I'm excited for you. I can understand how your daughter feels too - it will be a big change for her. Love the cat @Barnfred 55 he does look extremely pleased with himself - wonder what he had been up to?

I've just been tagged in another thread about Mike and Accie's chippy in Garston. Proper blast from the past. The Scouse pies they sold were to die for! It also set me to thinking about my first Saturday job at Bennys Cake shop, on Garston Old Road. £3 a day I got paid. I was minted. Mr Benny, the Polish owner was a fanatical Evertonian and a very volatile character. I usually saw him as I arrived for work - he would be finishing the night shift with the other bakers who had been making cakes and bread all night. he would go home, go to bed then if Everton were at home go to the match. he would always come back to shop after the match just before we closed. If Everton had lost, the sacks of flour would get booted all round the bakery accompanied by Polish cussing! If however Everton won, he would give us all the left over cakes to take home. Happy days!
Well I know that he hadn't been for a poo. I know because I stood at the patio doors and watched him, and he knew I was watching. So I deduced that he is either bashful or he knows that he is doing something wrong. lol He's very funny actually. Yesterday he was trying to climb the trunk of my palm tree and fell off half way up. Think he was more embarrassed than hurt.

Yeah I remember Mike and Accie's chippy. It later moved to Hunts Cross Avenue in Woolton (and is still there I believe) but my fondest memories are of it being in Garston by Garston Park. We often used to go there after being in the Heath pub and we'd often have a crack with the owner about Everton. IIRC he was a RS but he was a good laugh. I always judge a chippy by the quality of it's curry sauce, and their's was excellent. Sausage curry and chips was my go to meal, although the scouse pies were excellent as you say. ;)

Daughters may be harder work when they are younger, but experience tells me that they more than make up for it when they are older.

I get back ache when I overdo things bending over (keep it clean please). Goes off me after a while so I just need to take a 15 minute break. It does mean that is usually takes me hours to do a 20 minute job though. lol

Cal used to suffer badly from sciatica so she had to be very careful when lifting things. When she had bouts it could last for days and she was in real pain. Things got a lot better when we bought an automatic car though.
