Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Just done 3 sacks and two pots. Have to say I’m a bit disappointed with the organic compost which seems to be an excuse to sell shredded up twigs and assorted bits of wood, there’s even a few bits of plastic in there ☹️. Was hoping to get a trough of carrots in but it’s too coarse for seed so that will have to wait.
We only started growing stuff last year. daughter's boyfriend is very into growing veg so he gave us some tomato plants - we killed them! But he also gave us carrot and potatos to grow as well which were a great success. We're growing to try tomatoes again but think we''ll have to buy a little greenhouse for them. We're alos trying to grow melons which if we do will be a decent achievemnet in the usually frozen north east! The melon seeds are currently in a propagator enjoying the sunshine. ?

We've just planted some courgettes and carrots. Ran out of compost to do the potatoes so that's a job for the weekend.
Did you watch Marcus Wareing’s recent programme on BBC? As a novice he was learning to set up his own kitchen garden (plants and animals) and it was fascinating. You could feel his genuine enthusiasm through the screen.

Sussex I think it was filmed in.

Yes I did. It was really good. We are trying to think of some more things to grow - maybe chilli peppers.

You can’t beat the taste of home grown tomatoes. I used to grow them when we had a little greenhouse. Took it down though as I was afraid the grandchildren would run into the glass. I have tried growing them outside but haven’t had much success.

We grow strawberries.
We have two massive fat Kopite pigeons who come and eat them every evening though. Proper stealth operation moves they do as well to get them.

Good morning mascoteers on this beautiful day ,a bit jealous of the flower pictures and mention a magnolias flowering .Ours are still indoors and with half a metre of snow still outside that is where they will stay .It is our first year trying the mags as I am sure they wont like the winter but they are getting a bit too tall to bring in next autumn .We will have to see .
I hope all are well and have a great day .
