Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hello all. as you can tell by the number of 'posting while I should be working' comments today, I have not been at my most productive today. In fact really couldn't be arsed at all. Was very productive yesterday though and I still do 25% of my team's work on a regular basis ( there's 10 people in our team) and to be honest my boss takes the p*ss because he knows I'll just get on with it. So don't feel slightly guilty about slacking off every so often. I can't wait for next month when I've booked holidays off around Easter. Because I don't work on a Wednesday I can have 12 days off (including weekends) for 4 days holiday if I finish on the Tuesday before Easter.

Speaking of Easter, the weekend after Easter we are having a weekend in Newmarket. For Christmas I bought Mr F, who loves horse racing, a guided tour of Newmarket which involves a visit to the National Stud, watching the horses on the gallops, lunch and a visit to the National horseracing museum. This is all on the Saturday so we are travelling on Friday and coming back Sunday. He's dead excited about it. Booked us a nice hotel with spa too. I'm so good to him. Multiple wifeometer points! I'm just hoping to bump into the legend that is Mikey Holding who also loves horse racing, is big mates with Sir Michael Stoute and lives in Newmarket. I may be utterly speechless if that happens.

Think it's going to be a chicken curry for tea tonight. I'm going to try your pilau rice with it @Barnfred 55. We also have some naan bread too. I'm hungry already so time to hit the kitchen.
That’s boss mate.
Ive got nice plans for that weekend, but the trains look like being absolute murder.
Maybe something to consider btw.

Yep yhat would be on my bucket list meeting Mikey. An absolute legend of the game. 5 years ago I was amazed to bump into Sir Curtley Ambrose in a bar in Antigua. Just goes to show how wrong you can be about someone. Always thought he'd be real narky and unfriendly. He could not have been nicer. Some great stories , very polite , well spoken and generous with his time.

Morning all, peeing down here today. I found a slug on Daisy's water bowl this morning, I've complained 3 or 4 times now about slugs entering my kitchen, I was finding up to 3 a morning until I blocked any holes/cracks with kitchen roll but my kitchen is a mess because of it and they're still getting in as I've no bottoms on a couple of cupboards, been that way since I moved in.

I find it disgusting finding slugs inside every day and it's been 12 months since I first complained. so I sent an email this morning, it's unacceptable finding them on Daisy's bowls as I have already moved them into the front room, I found slug trails in my front room but have no idea where they come from as I shut the kitchen door every night for this reason as well. Bad enough in the kitchen. They can carry worms.

Pissed off today.

That's terrible T. Do you have a private or local authority landlord?

I'm with the council, normally they're quick. When this first started I had a leak behind the washing machine, right in the corner of my kitchen, I think it got so bad the floor crumbled a bit and I back onto slug infested grass, they're rife around here.

Anyway they sent a guy round and all he did was attach my waste pipe around under the sink so it couldn't leak and didn't actually sort the mess that is obviously behind my cupboards. So the floor has dried but the slugs are still coming in and I'm sick of picking them up.

I also put salt down which creates a big slimy mess, plugged as many holes as I could which has slowed them down but I am still finding them, It's disgusting. I do give Daisy worming tablets but that's beside the point I need it fixing.

Ambrose and Walsh. Best strike bowling pair ever imo. Windies had such a fantastic team in those days. Used to love watching them.

Morning all, hazy sun here although the forecast although the was overcast with sleet showers. Hope you get the slug problem sorted soon @Terrarian, unacceptable that you have to put up with conditions like that. Off to see my friend this morning for our weekly chat, is it me or do Wednesdays come round faster than they used to? Just the grim reaper catching up with me I supposelol. Have a good day all.?

Me too Fred. I've an unashamed Windies fan since the 1970s/80s glory days! Saw quite a few of them playing county cricket at Liverpool CC v Lancashire back in the day. Such a shame county cricket is now the poor relation and you don't get that quality of player coming over. I once saw Richard Hadlee take 7-25 at Liverpool on what was always known as a batting pitch. I reckon Holding had the most perfect bowling action I've ever seen.

OK T , a few years since I practiced and I might be a bit out of date ....but here goes....Sec 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act places an obligation on a landlord to carry out repairs when a tenant has notified them. If they fail to do so you can sue them to get the repairs done AND get compensation.

It is much easier to bring an action against a local authority.

Here's what you need to do.

1. Report the problem. I know you've done this already but you need evidence of your report so a letter detailing the problems, when you've reported it before and what failed / botched attempts they have made.

Make sure the letter gives them a set period ( say 21 days ) to complete the repair. YOU MUST KEEP A COPY OF THE LETTER!

2. Collate evidence. This means keep a diary of everything that happens. Take photos , show local councillors and neighbours.

3. If it affects your health , mental or physical , go to your Dr and explain the problems with your housing and how it's affecting you. Make sure he/ she makes a note of this. Put what you said I your diary.

Make similar complaints to your vet re Daisy.

OK fast forward 21 days and assume Council have done nothing and you have all your evidence.

Now instruct a solicitor to take your case on a no win no fee basis. You must get one like Anthony Hodari and Co in Manchester that specialises in housing disrepair claims. It doesn't matter that they aren't in your locality.

You must make sure it is on no win no fee. If you lose your case you pay nothing.

If you win their costs are paid by the Local Authority PLUS they take 25% of any compensation awarded to you , but on the flip side you get your repairs done and get some compo.

If the solicitor takes your case they will get a surveyors report which will help you , together with the evidence you have collated to win your case.

Sorry for the lengthy reply , hope this helps.

That's awesome Jazzy. When we were in Jamaica we bumped into Chris Gayle having lunch with his parents in our hotel. He too was lovely. Got my pic taken with him too. January 19th has been Chris Gayle day in our house ever since!
