2022/23 Michael Keane

He was because he dangled a weak leg out at a ball that then fell to Felix rather than just clearing it properly. He’s got all these sort of errors in him because he doesn’t do things with conviction (bizarrely that strike is the second thing I’ve ever seen him do at Everton that’s had a bit of conviction behind it).

When he turns his back on a shot and dangles a leg at it and it deflects past the keeper, that’s on him in my book. Deflections are far less likely to go on when a defender runs straight on with purpose to make a block.

When he’s jumping with his eyes closed and misses the ball and the striker puts it in behind him, that’s on him,

When he gives pens away because he does a pros and cons list before clearing the ball, it’s on him.

All those moments of panic in the box when the ball is either side of him and he’s just hesitating.

He’ll never be a top player. He’s ok in the low block but he’ll always have mistakes in him because he’s not quick of speed or thought and doesn’t have conviction in what he does. He’ll always give pens away because he’s late to react, there’ll always be deflections because he hangs back on blocks, the diagonal cross will always catch him out. It’s happened under every manager in every formation.

Dyche seems to like him with Tarkowski and tbh Coady was making just as many errors and Mina isn’t long for this club by the looks of it so let’s keep an ok pairing together until the end of the season but I can guarantee we are going nowhere with Keane at centreback. Nowhere.

Next season i’d like to see Tarkowski with one of Branthwaite or Godfrey partnering him with another new CB competing after we’ve sold Mina Keane and Holgate.

I think it's universally known he's not a good footballer but It's crazy just how much rage he gets from people, you would think he decided his own £30million transfer fee, gave himself an extended contract and picks himself in the starting line-up with the way idiots (not you) go on about it. Why are board, DOF and managers not held accountable that he's still here and playing if they hate him so much!?

Keane's haters were happy to destroy him when he gave away the penalty but were gutted with his goal line clearance and went completely missing when he redeemed himself with a goal. His heart is in the right place if nothing else and that should be enough to support him

You don't win 12 caps for England if you are a bad player. Simple as.

He does have a mistake in him, but so do John Stones and Harry Maguire. So does Coady (as we have seen), Mings, Guehi etc etc..

The speed at which the game is played now means centre backs will always end up exposed or making a mistake at some point.

We just need to back the ones that show some character to come back from a mistake and he has actually done that on more than one occasion.

So let's back him.

For those games where we're likely to be under pressure, perhaps Keane should be promoted to a holding midfield role in front of a Coady Tarkowski back line.

lol

The man cant turn.

I hope for your sake the parts in bold are you trying to me amusing/edgy.

If not then its a bit weird to say the least.

Still crap

100%

Imagining Keane in the holding midfielder role. What a sight' that would be.

He's been excellent in the low black with full backs who defend. He can't play any other way though. Part of that isn't his fault, it's just his build and the fact he's naturally got the polar opposite to "low centre of gravity". It is what it is for him. If we suddenly wanted to play attacking, free flowing football then Keane couldn't do it.

Every player has strengths and weaknesses, he has them too. If we play a system that suits him, then he's a good player to have in the squad, if we don't, then he'd struggle. I don't envisage Dyche changing how we set up, he may get better attackers in that create more of an edge and more ability to pass the ball better, but ultimately his defensive first set up will stay and Keane may be somewhat useful, even as an understudy.

It's probably a fair assessment of Maupay as well. He's never been a fluid goalscorer in the premier league, but his best times definately haven't come playing as a lone striker. He's been poor for us but we dont play a system that suits how he plays.

Look at Mcneill. We're playing a way where he's working his arse off, and his best asset which is his crossing is becoming more and more utilised.

Keane isn't a bad footballer, you dont play as long as he has at the level he has being a bad one, but he has his limits and it all comes down to whether he's in a team playing a certain system/style that he can thrive in.

He's not perfect, he makes errors but generally he has been very good under Dyche. Compared to Coady who has really struggled for form, even before Dyche took over.

Stick him uptop. Simples. If he is supposed to be the best finisher at the club, and we have no striker. Stick man up there. He can't exactly get less goals than what we already have.
Jokes, or is it 🤔

He’s scored a fantastic goal and one of some real importance making it the second really crucial one he’s scored for us . The player looks more comfortable with a manager he knows in this defensive set up , as he looked more comfortable with ancelotti and his style . All that said are we pretending that the preceding seasons haven’t happened? So he’s now apparently suddenly a really good centre half , it’s not even like we have to look back half a season or even more than the last couple of games for the mistakes he makes to have cost us goals .

let’s be honest The amount of really bad games the fella has had over the seasons isn’t like 3 or 4 , some of them were genuinely awful . I was delighted with the goal and made up for him and hope this manager who knows him can now improve a 30 year old centre half so we get a tune of him but the reality is the reality .

See I’ll have this . I was made up when he scored but like you recognise the evidence is he hasn’t , over his time her , been very good at all.

amazing....

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Frank was a good person, but he didn’t really speak to me. When I asked what I could do to get a chance, he said: ‘There’s nothing really.’ He said: ‘At your age, I’m not really going to tell you what to improve, what you should work on. You just need to keep going and see what happens’” – Michael Keane, who has come in from the cold since Everton shoved Frank Lampard out the door marked Do One, damns his former manager with the faintest of praise.

This was posted so many times, but in a way - imagine seeing a professional at their job, which they've been at for nearly all their life, and seeing them make rookie mistakes all the time. What can you do, teach them basics?

Not saying what Lamps did was right here by any stretch of the imagination to be perfectly clear, but if I had the option - I also wouldn't really speak to Michael Keane.

You'd think all our appalling form was down to this lad. Ridiculous. He's a decent CH who is one of maybe 3 players in our hopeless squad who can score a goal. Get off his back. We have so many others who deserve criticism - but it serves no purpose at this time as we cannot do anything about it. Get behind him and give him your support. I'd much rather play him with Tarks as a CH pairing than anyone else at the club.

Terry, the problem isn't him scoring the goal - it's the fact he's a defender and he's kinda sorta crap at preventing them going in really.

The dudes been central to any decent spell we’ve had, under Silva, under Carlo, the rescue last year - some really important goals and this year so far - he’s come in after we shipped four and he’s been great.

Same with Doucoure really.

Its a simple game.
