2024/25 Michael Keane

He's had spells of form before. Unfortunately for him, and us, it's never been for consecutive seasons, and this is the first glimmer of anything looking like decent form in a good few years.

He's a good age for a centre back though, and if he can put his best form in, he should be a solid back up option for the season.

Played well the last two games and deserves credit for that.

However, if we extend his contract or keep him in the team after Branthwaite’s back then I give up. A terrible signing overall and probably one of our worst over the whole Moshiri era.
Can't agree with that. There's far more suitable candidates for worst signing than Keane.

Has this been posted yet? Gave me a good chuckle

Playing him up front is just a meme. He’s obviously a very good finisher but playing up front is a lot more than just that. He’s slow, can’t turn, no agility etc. He wouldn’t be making the runs required to actually slot goals.

That turn and finish he did at the weekend was not slow. He took up a decent position and then had the pace and composure.

I think the people clamouring for him to be played up front have to consider how fragile his confidence is. If he missed an easy chance (and he would) the crowd would crucify him. Can anybody honestly see the man having the strength of character to take the stick Dom gets when he misses?

Having said that, he does slot some crackers, so I am 100% Ok with him being pushed up front late in game.

Don't think he'll miss much to be honest as he can hit a football.

Now this might sound like I'm advocating Keane to start up front, I'm not. He wouldn't be able to run into the channels and hold up play, but do I think he should be brought on with 10-15 mins left to play if we are a goal down? Absolutely.

Is that worth 100k plus a week? No. Should Branthwaite go immediately back in the team once he is fit? Yes. I appreciate every one of those goals he has scored and it's a shame it didn't work out here for him, but we (and he) need a fresh start.
