Transfer Rumour Michael Keane

My feeling is if we start with two centre backs, it'll be Keane and Jags... If we go with three, then add Williams to the line-up ahead of RFM.

If Jags stays, yeah maybe. Although for me, Williams was more consistent last year. I mean it felt like near the beginning of the season Jags was giving away a penalty in every game he played.

And ideally for me, the starting eleven would be numbered 1 to 11.

Jags won't be here next season mate, and no chance on earth he would start ahead of Williams who played every single minute he was eligible for the last season

because Jagielka is absolutely finished mate, he had about a 5-6 game stretch late season when he scored a couple and wasn't making massive errors every game - but no chance on earth a year older he is going to get anything but slower, and the memory of Costa leaving him for dead and the sight of Lucas Perez making up 10-15 yards in the Arsenal game on him to get the ball first and having to get a red card for bringing him down was absolutely horrendous

So if we take it as read that Keane is nailed on to be a starter, and we're going with two in the centre of the defence, it comes down to who fo you/we trust the most to partner Keane... Jags, Williams or RFM ?
Personally, I'd still go with Jags as he's still quicker than Williams.
Ideally, we bring in another young, hungry centre-back to build a new partnership in the centre of the defence.
VVD would have been great, but those fools across the park have probably hiked his cost through the roof with their idiotic behaviour.

jags isn't quicker than Williams mate, he can't handle anyone who times a run against him these days, and Williams is a slow player himself which makes Jagielka like molasses

Jags looks like he's running in treacle these days which is a problem because he's developed the habit of letting the ball bounce and as soon as he does that he struggles to recover

It's made even worse because he can't turn - so any player that spins him leaves him for dead instantly, it's something Barry has been showing signs of struggling with as well, gets turned and he is completely out of the game, not his fault, just age catches up with every player one day or another, it's a bad sign when you start seeing a cb reach an arm out to the player every time he's turned...

He used to be a front foot defender - aggressively going towards the ball, last season or two he's become a back foot one, because he knows his pace has gone, and if anything it's accelerated his decline now.

Williams with Keane and Holgate beside him if it's a 3, hell deal with the dirty stuff and let the other 2 chase. Jags will lead in Europe, it'll be his swan song I can honestly see there being almost two back lines for cup/league games next season

Agreed and it's the exact same problem with williams. He tries to have us sit so deep so as to avoid his lack of pace being brutally exposed.

It lead to a number of terrible performances last year, with the defence sitting so deep causing the midfield to do the same, with lukaku cutting a forlorn figure. That is why I feel we need two signings at centre half.

Yup neither have any recovery pace which means they have to sit so deep, Mori does have recovery pace, but his positioning is so shockingly bad it's no use to us.

Problems compounded when Barry also plays

i think williams will start ahead of jags. jags got dropped during last season, i'm not sure if williams got dropped. Then again, maybe we'l buy someone like lemos as well, although i think another centre back is dependant on if lukaku goes or not.
