But he was decent at Burnley so I’m giving him a seasons grace, same with a lot of our players for me with a few exceptions. His pace is clearly an issue.

He was decent because the tactics suited him, defend on the edge of your box and compress the space

The games he’s looked good all against teams with a lump up top; as soon as movement comes on he doesn’t have the brain to read. It’s not even a pace issue, it’s a defenders brain which he lacks.

It was like watching 2 different players pre and post Gayle coming on.

Its really a matter of he needs to be paired with a koscielny type. Very good game, obviously has flaws, but then again thats why he cost 25 million and not 75 million like top CBs are now going for.

Starting to look much better and more comfortable now ... good solid game tonight albeit a couple of errors late on .. get him a decent partner and he will be ok next season !

..yep. He was ok tonight but if you’re a CF in this league you relish having a one on one with him, and you feel you can always turn him.

He is what he is and will always need players around him to be at his most effective.
Jagielka in particular has to cover for him far too often. I think Keane is good in the air but he needs to position himself better, gets squared up or looks awkward at times.

So Keane requires the right partner for him to be effective

Gylfi requires the right wingers and strikers to be effective

We bought duds, we have a £60k right back who came from the Irish pub league who doesn’t require anyone to be effective because he plays with passion and desire
