Very sad. Drives cars at 200mph for his entire life, and could possibly suffer permanent brain damage or die from a stationary object. I always remember how upset he was after Senna died, he was behind him at Imola, you could see the heart break of his hero being taken from him, and ironically something similar has happened to him.

Really hope he pulls through, some driver and sportsman, and despite the bad press towards his driving, comes across as a genuinely nice bloke.

It was Boris Becker who said on Top Gear, that Michael the driver is nothing like Michael the man.

Hope he pulls through.

Often the way with single minded sportsman, they have to have that focus when in 'game mode', I remember Athers saying Allan Donald was a top bloke off the field.

Sounds pretty distressing, apparently he couldn't answer questions or anything when they tried to get him to respond, imagine his poor son seeing that

Always sobering when "superhumans" get afflicted by ordinary stuff makes you realise we're all vulnerable gotta enjoy life every day you can go on planning forever.

Ambition of mine to go skiing, no one in my family interested and it is a bit expensive but I will have a go one day - i'll just fanny around on the slopes I can do comfortably - quite envious of people who can ski looks great fun.

My lad (12) is going skiing first time in 6 weeks.
We have a massive signed pic of Schumi in our house.
Tough questions tonight.

He'll be fine mate, its the of piste stuff that Schumacher was doing and knowing what an adrenaline junky he is that off piste involved a lot of risk. You lad will be going up and down the yellow and green runs all day long.

Just be positive with him mate emphacize what a great time he's gonna have, but you are right gonna be tough questions about - best of luck fella

I still don't think this news story is going to get me wearing a helmet on the pistes, mind. Although I should. I don't go off piste like.

I would love to ski, might visit the ski slope in Manchester to get a feel of it, what would be the best for beginners, skis or snowboards

I would give both a go, but try skiing first. If you can get the hang of skiing then switching over to snowboarding is not hard. Doing it the other way round however is a bit more difficult - a bit like learning to drive in an automatic and then trying to drive a manual.

And wear a f*cking helmet. You never know when some asshat is going to slam into you.

Can we have a debate on helmets now, please?
[/canofworms]

I always wear a helmet, even to bed. As you can see from my avatar.

25 years ago my cousin came off his bike and hit his head.... He was in a coma for 5 and a half weeks in Liverpool....never woke up again..... He was 12...... I always wear a helmet on my bike.... Even to pop to the shop.... I never used to let my kids on bikes, skateboards, roller skates or scooters without helmets.... Over protective ? Yeh maybe... But they're still here.

RIP Chris xx

i think having a kid would be the only think that would get me to wear a helmet on a bike, lead by example and all that, i'm a bad tit on the bike as well, going through red lights, jumping on the pavement for pedestrian crossings, having my ipod on, only a matter of time before some motorist rightly loses it with me and runs me over

Forgive me for saying it... And I don't mean it badly.... But it would serve you right ha ha
