If Batshuayi comes in and is long-term a "super sub", and we buy a "proper" striker in the summer, I'd be delighted. But my fear is he'd score 10 goals from now until the end of the season and the Everton "that's good enough for us" mindset will come to the fore and we'll "go with what we've got."

Lukaku isn't good enough for an ambitious Everton; Batshuayi, in many ways a lesser Lukaku, certainly isn't.

I said this about Tosun and was very vocal about it. I saw Tosun a pointless, overrated and overpriced short term signing under a short term regime who wouldn't make any tangible difference who'd likely muddy the waters in the summer.

I think Batshuayi is different though. I think it's a very opportunistic one, if we can bag him for £12m-£15m with a view that a striker is still needed in January, we can't really lose money on him.

He's 25, his stock is at its lowest it's been...

I can see Chelsea wanting him to go on loan, to slot a few for Monaco to then sell in summer.

Problem is we aren't attractive right now. Beyond money which top player would look at us? So it's gambles and punts and developing young players. For me he's better than what we have and we are desperate for a goal scorer, if anything you need two or three. Look at the RS how many strikers do they have about five? We don't have one of the required level. Ask yourself this is he better than Tosun or Niasse there's your answer.
 
Is this lad a long term target?
I doubt it.
Are we willing to pay top wages for a player who may not be first choice in the next season ?
I don’t think so.
Will the player come to us for a much lower wage than he is currently on ?
Highly unlikely.
Based on the above will we sign him?
No.

Quite possibly for Marco Silva. But any of us? Probably not.

Possibly, although he doesn’t strike me as a Sílva player.
Perhaps more pertinently is he a Brands type of player? I don’t think so.
Ultimately it is wages that raise doubt on this rumour. Soundbites coming out of the club recently have emphasised the need to control the rapidly escalating wage bill somewhat.Would this player accept a wage of around £70 to a £100 grand? Personally doubt it, but who knows.

I'd agree with your thoughts personally. But as i've said I really don't believe this link.
 
I know we tried to sign this lad when he was at Liege, not sure but think we have been linked with a loan move or transfer each and every window since he moved to Chelsea. Not sure if this link is real or just same old, same old.
For what it's worth I think if the manager wants him we should get him, at the moment we have 2 strikers he doesn't like and who get minimal game time.
I think he is a good player, but not fantastic, better than Niasse, different to Cenk, possibly the best we can attract
