The point being that the least we should be offering is protection from the elements for displaced and desperate people.

I applaud your good intentiosn but can we get real about the genuine implications here? No one wants a wee lad to drown on a beach but welcoming hundreds in will just encourage thousands more to put their lives at risk trying ti migrate

Yep. That's the catch 22 about the situation.

It isn't about how these migrant folk don't need our help. It's about finding a practical way to sort it.

Taking some has to be part of the solution though.

No, they do not have the right to lead our lives. As for the protection for displaced and desperate people, I am all for that as long as the people who take the time to sign that petition also actually do something concrete to back up their noble act.

We singed a treaty that promises that, however it states asylum seekers are to remain in the first safe country the arrive in. With that in mind Britain is literally the last place they should be thinking of going to.

In seriousness the solution to an unprecedented problem is non existent. Only unrequired of before.
European powers cannot accpet the people en masse because that means saying yes to illegal immigration which contravenes EU legislation aswell as everything else imorally encourages people smuggling.
The only way countries can deal with this is to treat them like illegal immigrants and pain stakingly process them 1 by 1 until asylum seekers and thus can be filtered and accomodated or not whatever may be.
There can be no open door system be honest.
We are all human and feel for them but how can we help? I mean as a nation. Where do we fit in to this.

What I cant understand is, asylum seekers from lets say palestine, are able to get to europe, lets say italy a safe haven, not war torn. Yet said asylumseeker is still willing to risk thier life in the back of a refrigerated lorry for a couple of weeks to try and make it to the uk?????

One child is photographed on the sand and all of sudden there is an outcry?

And not to point out that the entire point of their asylum is to escape war. So after getting to Turkey, they absolutely have to risk their lives AGAIN to get to Germany/Greece/France/UK because Turkey is such a terrible, dangerous place, right?

I don't buy it one bit.
