It's going to be Cubs V Pirates in the wild card isn't it?

Talk about huge. Chicago will stop.

Win one game.
Win three games.
Win four games.
Win four games again.

The Mets will be involved - 1969, black cats, and all that.

Since the mets claimed the NLeast they have been absolute garbage. Can't believe we got wept by the Phillies. Need to find some early moment to overcome LA. Some really good teams this year, no way we are beating any combination of them to get the series. If we don't get there then I want the Cubs to do it just cos of back to the future 2

Not feeling confident against Arrieta. The only player who has success against him is McCutchen and Cutch is mired in a slump. I would feel different if Kang was there because he was the only other Pirates outfielder who has the talent to hit anyone. Cole is going to have to pitch the game of his life.

I have to admit that this is the perfect setup for the Cubs prospects. Arrieta is truly the filthiest thing in baseball right now, and the team finished on a historic run. They have played terrific ball, with great contributions from the guys called up at year end.

That said, it's nailed on that Pittsburgh wins this. Likely in some bizarre historic manner. Could be 0 - 0 going into the ninth. Cole hasn't been a slouch.

I'm relieved and happy to see the game away. Too many ghosts at Wrigley. That, and beauts leading goats around on a leash. I hope it just plays out and the team that plays the best baseball wins the game straight up. I don't look forward to meaningful October baseball any more. I just endure it. After 2003, I'm just scarred for life.

It's worth noting again @ijjysmith that the Wild Card games are 1-leg ties, the Division Series (ALDS, NLDS) are 5-leg ties, and the Championship Series and World Series are all 7-leg ties. Also, MLB (as the other American sports) ignore aggregate score. It's all about winning individual matches/games.

Nice one.
I get it at last!

So the Mets get a sort of bye past the next lot of games as they won the league bit and play the Dodgers I'm the sort of semis?

Almost. The Wild Card matchup is a 1-game "play-in," with the winner gaining entry into the last of the 4 spots in the League bracket. So basically the Mets (and Dodgers and Cardinals) get an extra day off, hopefully able to rest and set their rotation. You'll see a 4-man rotation with some teams and a 3-man rotation with others; even though teams expand the rosters (from 25 to 40) for the playoffs, they depend on their great pitchers even more. The games really get exciting now, and I think you'll enjoy @johnnydawg68's Royals if you get a chance to watch them play.
