2019/20 Moise Kean

Pretty sure silva has already said that he will resist the temptation to start him
Probably because he’s not yet ready for 90 minutes. But personally I’d rather see Silva do it the other way.

Rather than bring him on later in the game to try and grab something when we’ve struggled to score for 70 minutes, I’d rather start him with Richarlison, get a goal or two in front and then replace him with DCL who can hold the ball up and kill the game.

Another week on the training ground with Richarlison will make the difference whether he starts. Everyone wants this lad playing as soon as.

That's true. But we have to remember he's 19 and come from Serie A - a league from which players have often struggled to adapt to the PL.

I don't think he will struggle to adapt because physically he has all the attributes. But he'll need time. We can't afford to rush him and have him get a knock or lose confidence like what happened with Sandro (albeit Kean has a hell of a lot more to his game).

The pressure is on DCL and Gylfi and Rich to step up in the mean time. I know I bang on about it, but the club's pursuit of Zaha was certainly along the right lines. Even if we never put a second bid in, the proposals were there and the discussions. We knew he could take a massive load off Kean and the rest of them. Unfortunately Palace wouldn't play ball, but it is what it is.

Iwobi will give us another option to play Rich up top if DCL is really struggling.

Fair points but selection should, in my opinion for him, be a fitness reason bufore all else. He was playing for winners of a big league, has played champions league, is playing international football and scoring and cost us a few bob too. Don't reckon he needs too much cotton wool.

... agree with the age part disagree with the Serie A part. Players not suited to the PL struggle. The player that sprang to mind immediately as a counter was the Egyptian from the other side of the park.

Thing is, he wasn't playing regularly as a starter. I watched Juve a lot last season for work. He only really came on in games in the back end of the season and didn't start in the league until March, when he also made a start for Italy and then scored.

He's got it all. Bags of talent. But we can't afford to rush him.

Lukaku had had a year of being half-an-half a sub/starter for West Brom in the prem before he came to us, and became a regular starter at 20.

We don't need to wrap him in cotton wool, but 13 league appearances - mostly as a sub - for a team that absolutely dominates their league is nothing compared to what we'll need him to do, so we have to ease him in. He made a further 3 sub apps in the CL and one start (his first of the season) v Bologna in the Coppa Italia in January. He did score in that.

Add on top of that a sub appearance for Italy in November and then two goals in two starts in the Euro qualifiers in March.

Yes, his goals-to-games ratio is impressive. But it's still only 20 appearances in one season, less than half of which were starts.

Well, yeh, but Salah hasn't come from Serie A initially, mate. He was at Basel then Chelsea then thrived at Roma. I agree with your point, but traditionally, there's been more players who've struggled from Serie A or, maybe more particularly, Italy as a country. It's just a general rule of thumb, there's evidently exceptions.

As I said, I don't think he will struggle. He's got pace, power and knows where the goal is. But doesn't mean he has to be thrown straight in if we think he's not quite ready. I'd rather wait for him to be fully fit before starting than have him come straight in and struggle.

He had 19 starts in Serie A for Hellas Verona two years ago, as well. I don't think it'll be long.

Tbf I actually tried to think of players who adapted well. Zola, Bergkamp, Desailly, Henry, Vialli & Ravanelli were the ones who came to mind. But I totally concede these guys feel like they were playing a footballing century ago. I guess that Garibaldi (was that his name) did ok at Southampton (that’s stretching it a bit too), but he’s gone now.

Are there even that many players that come from Italy? The only other one I could think of (without the assistance of the internet) was that Aquillani.. so ultimately this was a worthwhile endeavour as I had a little laugh at that one!

He also had a bad injury that season. And it wasn't 19 starts, it was 19 apps - 12 starts (just double checked is all!). In total he played 20 games for Verona, scored six goals.

Look, I'm not saying he can't start. I'm just saying we have to be patient and trust the management to assess him right. I really want to see what he can do but am happy to wait for the right time.

40 appearances in total (21 of them starts) in two seasons. Yep, a great goalscoring ratio, that's not in doubt. But that's really not much at all in two seasons, especially considering he's got to transfer from Serie A (which isn't as slow and defensive as it once was) to the Premier League.
