2019/20 Moise Kean

I honestly find it staggering that our fans can't see what Silva was trying to do with Kean that Watford game. Kean had shown in the previous games he had played that he had struggled playing with his back to goal and was struggling with the physicality of being a loan front man. Silva started him out wide with the instruction to cut inside, get on the end of DCLs knock downs and use the space that would be afforded to him. It was moving inside that opened up the space for him to get onto a through ball early on.

Now, this would have worked better if he had a right back behind him who was up and down the flank, However, Coleman was beyond awful that game meaning that Kean was basically man marked and the space wasn't there. The most obvious change would have been to bring Sidibie on for Coleman but I'm pretty sure Sidibie wasn't fully fit and had just played 90mins on the Saturday.

Kean is an exciting talent, no doubts. But that doesn't mean he is ready to lead our line. The lad himself only set a target of 7 goals for this season. Until he is up to speed with the league and showing that he is ready in training, then he won't be and shouldn't be starting up top.
100% agree. The way some people talk you'd think he'd asked a 6ft 7 target man to play left back, rather than trying to give a player who likes to run at people and get in behind the opportunity to better utilise their skills, in a position which isn't completely unfamiliar to them. It didn't work, but it was a perfectly logical thing to do.

Kean's main problem is not of his own doing to be fair to him.

He came in and set a very unambitious goal target, but when you think about it, a young lad coming into a new country and league isn't that unreasonable.

Kean's issue is the hype, the propaganda that was put out about his signing, best young player in Europe, he next big thing, golden boy, an unbelievable signing, etc AND his transfer fee.

Now maybe the club put all that stuff out about him to deflect from the fee. But right now it looks like Juventus had Marcel Brand's kecks round his ankles. And the hype that was generated by his signing is causing the huge disappointment we are feeling about him now.

I don’t believe the hype on anyone we buy personally, never heard of Kean before we signed, same with Tosun, Klaasen, Sandro etc.
I’ll judge a player with my own eyes, he‘s a young player in a new league and definitely hasn’t had enough time to be branded a success or a flop yet.
The manager clearly doesn’t fancy him, whether it’s because he’s not showing enough in training, attitude or he didn’t want him in the first place.
I’m pretty confident he won’t succeed under Silva though and only one of them will be here next season.

If I see him play and start missing sitters then he just could be a flop.Is he doing that in training so Silva won't start him?

There was loads of hype around Kean long before we were linked with him. It's certainly not something we created.

Really?! Don't mean this pejoratively, but that's more down to your own knowledge than whether Kean was well known before we signed him.

To be honest I'd never heard of him either, until we were first linked with him. Pretty sure it's the same for the majority of people as I remember when the first rumours went round people were positing picks of Moyes and Keane.

None of my mates had heard of him either.

The stuff about him being this huge prospect isn't true, if you were really into your Italian football you might have known more, but can you tell me who's Ac Milan's young 4th choice striker who's only made under 20 appearances? Or inter Milan's? Granted, at huge it's all about one man but still. He wasn't an mbappe, Rooney or theo walcott in his youth was he. They were hugely hyped. Mean was no where near that.

The hype I heard came from Everton and funnily enough this forum!

Good god... hes the first player born after 2000 to score in the champions league and the Italian national team.

Youngest goalscorer ever for Italy

Scored in 6 consecutive games...

... and that's before you get to the racism controversy that did get quite a lot of coverage.

Being ignorant doesn't mean you have a point.

If he wanted to give him a try with DCL, which I am all for, then why not try that then, instead of forcing him into system?
He may be quick, and your striker to left back is an extreme example, but just that change of position can be a huge change depending on the player and the plan. If it was that easy, most centre halves would be decent fullbacks and vice versa. Most centre mids would be lost as a winger, and same applies the other way. Some players are negatively effected from changing between a 2 and a 3, playing the same basic position.

He's a young lad, and it's not the be all and end all if he's not fully up to speed, but all people ask is for a bit of consistency in approach. I mean, in 1 of our last games, I can't remember if it was spurs or not, he brought Kean on for Walcott. But kept Richarlison, who Silva has insisted is best playing off the right, in the centre, and left Kean on the wing. Now you could argue why make 2 changes instead of 1, but that's exactly what he did when he replaced Michael Keane with Mason Holgate, and switched Yerry Mina from the left to right, and Holgate, a right sided CB, to play on the left.

If we had a system that was fool proof, a team winning and full of confidence, and excellent team chemistry, I could understand putting Kean in any position, for minutes, experience, confidence boosts, etc, and players undoubtedly love playing anywhere they can when the positivity is flowing in that way. But we're not, and it seems crazy to me to do that in the situation we are in.
