You don't often see scenarios like this work out well.

I'd have been fine if he didn't score a goal this season and just worked on settling in - I've said consistently that he's only 19, in a new country, doesn't know the language and will need time. But he needed to be a professional to succeed here. Unfortunately he's turning up late and his dad is saying it was a mistake he came and he wants him out. All the signs indicate that there's a big problem here.

This only ends one way IMO, but I hope I'm wrong of course.

You'll be proven wrong so no need to worry about it mate.

Marcel Brands doesn't bin off a £25m Golden Boy nominee just because he hasn't slotted by November in a new league.

You've wet the bed big time here.

Thing is we cannot afford to splurge that level of cash on teenagers with potential.

I was fully on board with giving him time but it depended on him keeping his head down and working.

To be honest I've gone completely the other way now and wrote him off. He's gone in January or the summer at the latest, can't see no way back.

Which is a shame as I have a feeling this lad could have been top drawer and may well still be if he matures.

What the hell? Didn't the club say he was a well liked and hardworking member of the squad? Who they had no behavioural issues with beside his timekeeping?

None of us know anything, he'll come good, just needs time and patience... From us as much as anyone else.

We'll see. Admittedly I've seen no outward sign of attitude problems from him on the pitch but the signs are extremely worrying.

They're not going to say anything else. But facts are facts - the lad is turning up late and his dad is running his mouth, and we're only a few months into his time here.

Everything suggests this ends badly right now.

How do you know this?

Because he left him, his brother and his mother when they were tiny, had no contact with the family until his son signed professional terms with Juventus then started demanding money and tractors.

There was an interview with him on an Italian football site (think its on youtube too) where he says he owes everything to his mother and hasn't seen his dad in years.

Because he literally posted an IG story at the weekend telling people to ignore his dad.

Did he? Had no clue - I've been avoiding Everton like the plague recently, only responded here because someone quoted me before.

If so, fair enough - I thought his dad was speaking from a position of influence; that's how it was initially framed.

If that's the case, he's right to shut it down rapidly. If his dads just an irrelevant loudmouth who doesn't have the inside track and he's just been late a few times while settling, then yeah, I'd change my view on it.

You should change your view then.

And go change your sheets.
