2019/20 Moise Kean

"At 19, why have they sold him? Personally, slight alarm bell going off in my head. Juventus are arguably the biggest club in Italy, wealthiest club in Italy. Given that they've got an older strike force, you're selling a 19 year old who won't be hurting you wage-wise.

They've not got £100m plus for him, I think there could be other issues there. I don't know if Juve have a buy-back clause, if they don't then that will tell you they're happy to see him out the door. At 19?

It doesn't make any common sense if you're Juventus! It's as if it's like
'Go on, we don't care how good he's going to be, you can take him!'.

Which would suggest his off the field activities aren't the best. It's a bit like Adebayor here, he was 25 and just about to enter his best years and Wenger sold him to City. Right away, you're thinking 'he's not selling him because he's not a very good Footballer'. It's because there's something not quite right with him.

And that's how it turned out to be, because Adebayor was a boy who had all the talent you could ever wish for but just didn't do it"

======================

That is word for word what he said and I don't think that's racist in the slightest. I think part of it is a veiled compliment too.

Players move clubs for all sorts of reasons beyond just their Football ability. Ferguson was known for doing his homework on a players home life, their interests outside of Football and their general mentality as all of this has a bearing on their chances of adapting quickly to the team. Part of the reason Ferguson let Ravel Morrison and Pogba go was because of their off-pitch behaviour. Which doesn't necessarily imply that they have / had 'bad attitudes' or are 'unprofessional'. City paid an extraordinarily low fee (£14m) for a Spain international, Jesus Navas, because he'd been known to suffer from homesickness and the chances of him adapting to England long term were questionable.

The comparison with Adebayor is about a clearly talented Footballer approaching his peak being sold by a top CL club, surprisingly to a team that had just finished 10th (City). As I said before and as a couple of others on here have alluded to as well, I think we were all surprised to have got Kean, and to have got him for such a low fee with no buy-back was incredible. We're hailing it as miraculous from Brands, but the counter argument to why the price was so low for such an obviously talented player is that it's influenced by something non-football related.

That's quite a short leap to make and, again, I don't think it's a racist one to make either. Nobody has used the words 'bad attitude' or 'unprofessional' other than some fan account on Twitter trying to stir the pot.
That's garbage. It's a short leap to suggest he had a year left, the his agent has a great relationship with Brands, and that he wants to actually play. It's a massive leap to suggest his off the field activities are an issue at all. The problem is that Souness has no idea. He's completely making stuff up. He knows nothing about the player and is taking out of his tail. I don't know if he's racist or not, but I know he is lazy and dumb.

If you are just defending Souness of the racist shouts, fair do's. But if you're defending him of being a bad biff, you're way off the mark in my opinion.

The guy disrespected a 19 yo right there, and his only justification for it was that he couldn't understand why a player of his potential would want to leave Juventus to come to a club like Everton.

In doing so he showed a complete lack of knowledge of the situation that led to the transfer. Simple things like the lad was in the last year of his contract. Juventus had offered him new deals but he had refused to sign them because he was more interested in getting playing time. That he had a well known agent behind him with a reputation for getting his way, an agent that they do a lot of business with by the way. That Juve also tried their hardest to insert a buy back in the contract which is why the transaction took weeks rather than days to complete.

Before he laid into him he should have found these things out if he didn't know them already. He should then have been praising the lad for his attitude and, let's face it, taking a risk with going to a new country, to the hardest league in the world, to a club where he was near enough going to be guaranteed game time, and doing all this for the good of his development rather than just for the money. No, he just decided that the lad must have issues. And lets be honest here, we all know what "off the field activities" refer to. he has a bad attitude, or he's a bad influence in the dressing room, or he's out on the pop all the time. None of it good. And his comment "there's something not quite right with him" just confirms this.

I know you have a liking for taking the "alternative view" on here, which is absolutely fine and adds to the conversations in here. But your coming out with lame excuses to defend this bellend against disrespectful comments made against one of our players is just plain wrong. Any proper supporter would be defending our young player against such unfair and unfounded criticism.

I agree with you in that I don't think the comments were racist, although bringing Adebayor into the mix does make it stereo-typical and there can be a fine line sometimes. My personal view is that this is an anti Everton stance from Souness. We all know there is no love lost and this is just him having yet another bash at us. But the way in which he has done it, i.e. disparaging the reputation of a young 19yo new to the league, is nothing less than cowardly and despicable and just shows the guy up for the utter cretin that he is.

Very well said, Souness is an anti Everton bellend just like Gerrard and Hughes as IO stated earlier.

That’s absolutely fine. Like i said, I don’t particularly like Souness. I was just disputing the racist shouts.

Great, that was the whole purpose of my post!

I’m impressed with him, has quality on the ball and you can tell by his movement that he’s gonna score goals. I’d go with him again for the Bournemouth game for sure. Obviously didn’t know too much about his assist but it’s nice to see our pressing get some reward and is only gonna encourage him to buy into Silva’s system with the pressing from the front.

OK that's fine.

It didn't come across that way with all the talk about attitude, cheap fees and home sickness. It sounded like you were taking sides with Souness. He may or may not be a racist, but he is anti Everton and a total weapon and was well out of order yesterday in what he said.

What he said wasn't racist, but the way he always targets black players for these baseless accusations (just like he did for Pogba) suggests he is.

Done more in his few minutes than DCL has done in piles of games.
