and exactly how is forcing him back here against his will, preventing him winding down his contract value?
because it prevents him from having his cake and eating it. He can't go on loan til his contract is worth bogger all. Now he knows, he either stays with us and tries to get his career on track, or he gets sold. At the moment, he would probably turn down offers of a permanent move cos he thinks he's gonna bully us into letting him go on loan to psg, once he is disabused of this notion, he will start to behave

He's done less in an Everton shirt than Cenk Tosun.

It’s a lose lose situation, but at least if we stand our ground he may come around to a permanent sale somewhere. It’s less sackless than some of the other things we have done, so I am behind sending a message to Kean and PSG that this will not stand. They aren’t a Turkish club. They have the dough (and if FFP was a problem that’s their own fault for blowing 60 mil just now).

Gets sold to who? One of the teams queueing up to buy him now? We can effectively force him to stay but we can't force him to try; even if he tries we can't force him to be any more effective than he was first go around.

no, we can't force him. But he's got three years left on his deal.At his age, that is a lifetime. There is v little chance he throws away 3 years of his career, it's much more likely he will knuckle down. The alternative is he disappears to France for 3 years on loan and leaves for nothing

Ok, and if he knuckles down what chance is there that he's good enough?

My point is this "make an example" nonsense is cutting our nose off to spite our face. He hasn't looked good enough for the PL so far. If that's because he hasn't tried, then I doubt he'd try any harder if we kept him against his will; if he wasn't good enough he probably still won't be.

He's a young lad. He could very conceivably pick up a good salary for 3 years, get a move to a middling European club at 24/25 and get his career back on track. Don't underestimate players' ability to disappoint you, especially at this club!

I disagree that age at 21, 3 years is a lifetime. if he was 26 then yes.

in your worst case scenario above, that is only slightly better than just letting him go on endless loans. If we rule out further loans, there is a fair chance if someone else comes in, eg Juventus with a £28m bid, he won't play silly buggers wanting to go on loan, more likely he'll jump at the chance of a permanent move

Are you prepared to quote your sources re the "fair chance" of wealthy suitors appearing out of thin air?

And paying his wages for 3 years is "only slightly better" than 3 x loan fees (assume a few million each) and 3 years of not paying his wages?!

Most certainly better options though. If PSG wanted him as much as he wants them then they’d have bought him already, they’re using the fact he wants to join them so bad to try get him on a loan. Pay the fee or he doesn’t join them. If another team doesn’t want to sign him then he stays and either throws his toys out the pram and ruins his career or he gets his head down and does his best.

hes 20 years old with a one goal in two scoring ratio for psg. There's no need for me to 'magic' suitors out of the air, it's just a question of the price

Yeah but you have to earn minutes in this league. He simply didn't. Every time he came on he swung wildly between brief glimpses of looking like he had something, and long stretches of moping around doing nothing.

Can't have passengers in the Premier League, and he was the definition of one.

When he arrived, all I expected was him to put in a shift and adjust to the league over 12-18 months, and he failed in a spectacular way to do either of those things.

I can't see a route back for him here, but if we can't sell then we have no choice but to try - it's a hard no to a further loan as far as I'm concerned.
Someone might want to tell Brands that, we seem to have a squad full of them.

If he stays then he has to he played as a 'poacher'...none of this target man nonsense.
You are right , but on the other hand who plays a pair of strikers nowadays.

The days of Sharp and Heath / Gray or Lineker and Beardsley are well gone.
