I don't see signing players who are not exceptional and in their late 20s for cash like that as a wise move. In fact I'm pretty sure you felt that way about Bolassie.

We overpaid on bolasie, never said we didn't, but that's because he's an erratic player short of top class mate, scheiderlin until the United move was one of not the best in his position in the league, and even his 'terrible' last season at United he played very well and notably the teams results when he did play was considerably better than any other United players record.

There's a reason everyone of the top teams where sniffing round him mate.

22m or so for scheiderlin would represent an absolute bargain. 29m spent by the club to have a centre midfield as good as any in the league and both with 4-5 years of there prime left is among the best business any club will have done for years.

We have been crying out for that creative influence in the side. Sigurdsson ticks all the boxes.

Mate, take a look at Schneiderlin game. He punts out wide to runners who've git in their bikes for an early pass. Nothing much comes through the middle. That will marginalise Lukaku, not to mention Barkley. If the goal is to get rid of both and sell them then this is the right way to go about it.

To be fair my example was meant to be more general than specific. I was trying to illustrate why continually buying potential is a gamble. If we are finally serious about challenging at the top end we need to build a team of proven rather than potential talent. There is still room for studied gambles such as Lookman, but the majority of players should be able to do the job required of them immediately.
