We were ripped off there, imo. City knew we needed a sale to start out spending. When players like Luiz were fetching £50M off PSG, we should have been getting that and then some for 'the greatest emerging talent in English football' and a homegrown player (even if he's no such thing City had bought into it and should have been mugged).
To be honest Dave, that is just wrong.
Twelve months earlier Chelsea started the bidding at 20 for Stones. I accept that this was too low, given his age, his status as a full international and also being English , but to add 30m to the opening bid is little short of heroic.

Do you believe that the City coaches never watched John Stones play, do you believe they are so clueless about football they could not see the flaws in his game that many on here commented about.
They overpaid for the player based on his current standing as a player. The extra money paid was for the player they hope he turns into, but every penny was squeezed out of that deal and you lend nothing to your credibility to suggest otherwise.

Schneiderlin , is something similar. Based on performances over the last twelve to eighteen months he is not worth 20m. based on performances before that in todays market he is probably worth over 30m.
Which player are we going to get only time will tell.
But, this is what the manager is paid a huge salary for, to make the big calls and get it right.

The Chelsea bid in 2015 got up to £38M in the end. The fee inflation kicked in the next season good and proper - on that basis £47M was a snip. They mugged us because they knew we had to sell to buy. Simple as that.

£30M for Schneiderlin? Please.

I dont care about the cash spent either. I do care it's spent on quality and if it's going to seriously depreciate over a short period due to age and ability. Do Bolassie and Schneiderlin fit that bill?
It's all about getting the balance though. Williams signing was looking to the short term to 'fix' a problem area. Bolasie and schneiderlin are for the duration of the contracts they currently have signed or will sign. All 3 have been bought with the intention to significantly improve our starting 11 immediately. Everton needed proven quality to address the mess Martinez left us in, hence the signings of these established premiership players. This is to be counter balanced with the arrival of lookman and possibly depay, young hungry players, who barring injury and form are here for the future.

Lets see how it works out. I have massive doubts about the wisdom of this type of transfer policy. It looks mad and I believe in time it'll be borne out that it was and we'll shake our heads about how it could have been left to happen.

Chelsea went up to 38m because they got ever more desperate , as soon as the season started we all saw why.

If Schneiderlin had not gone to Utd, but continued to play for Southampton as he was doing when he left them , then what price would you put on him now ?

Never understood why football fans care about the money aspect of it. On the whole they don't know how deals are structured, don't know the wage costs, don't know agents fees and, more importantly, the money isn't theirs. It's an odd game based on limited knowledge and limited actual interest.

May be the case for the passive supporter, however, those of us who invest time and hard earned cash into Everton, be that following by watching merchandise etc, have every right to question and care about the money aspect. Most people who follow football will have reasonable knowledge of costing in players and whether it’s a true reflection of ability. It also gives you a measure of those managing the club and how committed they are.
