Without them breaking the mould you would have been stuck with Lonnie Donagan skittle music , and Sir Cliff..........
I agree but going forward they have influenced Liverpool music far too much. I'll probably get banned for this but Scouse music has never moved on from that era I can only think of maybe the Bunnymen who didn't sound like them. The Coral for example are the Beatles/Gerry and the pacemakers rolled into one.

LOL.

Loads of Liverpool bands from the 80`s onwards sounded nothing at all like the Beatles / Gerry and the Pacemakers :

Tear Drop Explodes.
The Icicle Works.
Cook da Books.
The Pale Fountains.
The Wild Swans.
The Zutons.
Space.
The Bandits.
Shack.
The Mighty Wah.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
China Crisis.
Half Man Half Biscuit.
OMD.

FYI : The Coral are more Captain Beefheart than the Beatles / Gerry and the Pace Makers too.

The Pet Shop Boys are the worst thing to happen to music mate. Have spent years trying to figure out if I have missed something. Utter garbage!

You`re looking at them as a " fluffy pop electonica duo " which doesn`t do them justice at all.

They`ve made some really great records, my favourite being " Rent ", which is not only a great record, but is also a very astute observation about how wealthy gay men use younger gay men.

Closely followed by - " It`s a Sin " which is a massive dig at the Catholic church and is based on Neil Tennant`s experiences growing up as a gay man with a devout Catholic upbringing.

Then you have the likes of - " Homeward Bound ", which has such a beautiful melody to it.

I`m guessing that you`re basing everything on West End Girls, but there`s so much more to them than that.

The ones you mentioned above included too. I really don't get how they have made a living out of music.

Being a bit loose with the term Liverpool band for those last two....
