Moyes linked with Villa and Spurs

But do they wish to get losses under control? I certainly don't know.

And given that you predicted that the Milner money wouldn't be reinvested in player's sales and then it was, I'd wager you don't know for certain either. It's all just speculation.

They've got to. Or they'll be out of any possibility of Europe. That much is UNAVOIDABLE for them.

Milner's money gave them scope for playing in Europe. They've spent it. And are still losing money compounding this.

So unless they sell again, they're out of Europe for foreseeable future.

Moyes' odds been cut from 6/1 to 3/1 to 5/2 by Skybet today. I appreciate it could all be just internet/media nonsense. But Moyes has been on Talk Sport a few times and seemed quite pally with the presenters, particularly the Evertonian Mike Parry. I guess we'll find out if Moyes sees a 'fresh challenge' as he stated, elsewhere, rather than here. Maybe the meeting with Kenwright regarding funds, finally made him want to seek another club. I appreciate this could be nonsense, but I have no life, and this is the reason for my post here.

As a "GENUINE" villa fan:

Do you think that you'll be spending big this summer as other Aston Villa forum members have been stating after their "appoint Moyes" fantasies were stated?

20m from the Ashley Young deal plus another 10-15m. This opinion is similar to other fans, if you look on VillaTalk there is a thread where we say how much we will spend gross and net. Some of them are unrealistic even for myself though such as 30m net.
Because anyone at Villa that thinks you'll be out spending big is still in utter denial at just what a terrible situation you're in.

Also how much is Lerner going to take out this year's revenue?

You mean the administrative costs you continually point out that come under the clubs wage bill?

And why do you think Martinez turned you down? If it wasn't for a negative transfer budget over the next few years?

Because of loyalty and the fact that it's a high pressure job. Look how quickly our fans were on Houlliers back. Of course if you're a regular listener to Talksport you will think otherwise. I'm surprised you haven't mentioned the Benitez story, despite us not even approaching him

There you go.

BIG...apologies for interupting here...seriously,

but i've just been skim-reading from page 1 looking for evidence of how EUFA's new rules will affect Everton? Can Matt or someone succinctly sum up what this will means for Everton FC, in context to our turnover. Again apologies if I have missed it but half-way through I started to feel the urge to gouge my eyeballs out...not good...need them to cross the road.

But seriously...how are Everton (who are skint) going to react within these new restrictions? are we at an advantage or disadvantage? Our turnover approx £75 M so what does that mean in terms of what we can spend. Your knowledge and input is appreciated, pls excuse my laziness...but I could not find this info. Thank you!

Given the genuine ITKs (we all know who they are) have stated that Everton have been talking to a number of players.

Nah mate.

Its one of their outside broadcasters starting scurrilous rumours on twitter.

In other news. Everton continue talking parties... nothing to see here although I'll leave it to those more connected in such things than I.

I've got more interest in the financials!

Anyway the point is Villa spend shed loads of money, we don't and yet we tend to finish above them anyway. This is why they want our manager. This is also why they're not going to get him.

I'm SERIOUSLY LAUGHING at this "it's the media"

And that you seriously believe this.

VILLA ARE SKINT. How many times can this be emphasized.

You've asked Martinez of WIGAN to be your manager and he's turned you down.

Honestly. Are all of Villa's fans in this denial or what lid?

You don't look a shambles. YOU ARE A SHAMBLES.

Its really NOT the media this time Shoody.

Im not saying Martinez didnt turn us down. Im saying he wasnt offered the job. The Media have definitely emphasized everything going on. BTW. Managers dont choose clubs based on whether they are skint (unless there is no money to spend - which I am assured there is at Villa (yes i know what spending would mean to Villa a la Uefa FFP) simply because we have no choice, we currently have no squad)

I agree. We are in a big debt. Yes this means we wouldnt be allowed into Europe. But nor are Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea or Man City as things stand. No, i dont know our transfer budget. Yes we may only have a small (or no) net spend. I dont really wish to argue this though as im sure I could do that by re-reading the rest of this thread.

I would think. As an Everton fan. You would not really be commenting on WHERE we get our manager from. As you are one of the few clubs who have picked a manager from a lowly 'small' club and made it work wonders. David Moyes came from Preston North End after all.

Presuming we spend nothing this summer are we not [at worst] just Everton 10 years ago? appointing a young, up and coming manager from a small club from nowhere. Is that not the same thing that Arsenal did with Wenger from Grampus? Porto with Mourinho? Aberdeen with Fergie? to a much lesser extent Porto with Andre Villas Boas? Young managers appointed practically from no where? No. Maybe Martinez wouldnt have worked out but lets not pretend that we are a shambles because we asked him. It certainly worked out for your very own club. (again I dont want to debate money - yes we are in debt but that only matters if we actually qualify for Europe...and as it stands, we wont be for a while).

I applaud Martinez for committing to Wigan in an industry dogged by money-grabbing, attention-hungy people (again as an Everton fan where you have lost Pienaar, Rooney, Lescott and possibly Baines, Fellaini and Rodwell soon that loyalty should be something applauded in the modern game?

Yes he turned us down and I agree. If we end up with a manager worse than Martinez then Aston Villa is a shambles. And any Villa fan will agree with that statement. So there is no bias there. I am not going to say appointing a manager from a club worse than Wigan will make me happy - it wont. BUT. We havent appointed anybody yet. So. There is no point calling my club a shambles for appointing a young manager from a small club when:

a) We havent appointed, or even offered the job to anybody yet
b) Your club did the exact same thing.

Anyway the point is Villa SPENT shed loads of money, we don't and yet we tend to finish above them anyway. This is why they want our manager. This is also why they're not going to get him.

Past tense  They can't spend something they don't have. (and would have to borrow MORE for)

Although I guess when it comes to women and shopping....

Moyes will be joining Villa next week.

High...highasaki.....if you read this thread from page one....halfway through you will feel the urge to gouge your eyeballs out. However, if you can overcome that urge...there are over 35 pages of knowledge and opinion that will tell u that u r talking out of ur arse.

Welcome...ps do u like kippers? salted? or normal?

Shoody's post

No offense to you Shoody. You at least have a discussion and appear more realistic.

But with a £37 million annual loss (on top of a £42million loss) and another £30million this season ....

There's a reason I'm calling Villa a shambles.

I also find it hugely irritating seeing Villa (and some of our own) assuming that the spending of 2009 (from Villa; based on LOANS and not your money) would possibly be able to continue this year

or that they could pry Moyes from Everton.

Really. Your post here says more of the real situation of Villa than I've seen in 30 pages of Villa fans posting on here, on Villa talk or anywhere else.

So well done.

But you've no chance getting Moyes, and it'll take two years to get the losses under control at Villa before even thinking of tackling the debts. You're in a very tight and difficult position.

Shoody.

I've another question for you.

Do you think that you'll be spending big this summer as other Aston Villa forum members have been stating after their "appoint Moyes" fantasies were stated?

Because anyone at Villa that thinks you'll be out spending big is still in utter denial at just what a terrible situation you're in.

And why do you think Martinez turned you down? If it wasn't for a negative transfer budget over the next few years?

I dont know how much we'll spend. Because I, like you, are not the clubs accountant. Most ITK's (again, reliable) say we WILL be spending.

Can Lerner afford it? Yes. The club cant afford it - IF we qualify for Europe. But with Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and Utd all spending - If we dont (and this applies to Everton too), the Fair Play rules will never apply to us though, because we will not qualify for Europe.

I get your point about the debt, I really do. but we pay minimal interest and compared to other PL debt it is not that bad. the amount is bad yes. But again, the Fair Play rules will never apply to Villa or Everton unless they win a cup or finish 5th or above. Neither of our clubs will be able to do either of those things without spending. It's a vicious cycle but the choices are

a) spend, get a squad together and build up. miss out on Europe for a couple of seasons when UFFP kicks in and hope for the best
b) Spend nothing. Hope the clubs that inevitably finish above us fail to qualify because of Uefa FFP.

B is more of a risk, when you consider how close both of our clubs were to relegation at some point during the season (us obviously much worse off than you guys, but until 2nd half of season you guys were down there too)

Wheres the poster on here who always quotes Ferris Buellar? Seems apt...
