Moyes linked with Villa and Spurs

I am. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. As a football club, on limited means (we've established why this is), Everton are run well as a business.

Unfortunately football is all about 'keeping up with the Joneses'. And we're doing this quite nicely.

It's not anyone's ideal scenario, I'd love there to be a multi million pound warchest to buy, buy, buy. But I'm a realist. We're Everton. It's not going to happen overnight unless an oligarch or Sheik comes out of the woodwork. It will happen given time IF the right moves are made off the field...and this does not necessarily involve the extraction of the existing board. The worry is that in football, new ownership generally equals rash, speculative investment which is a very bad thing.

Excellent post!

The Martinez smokescreen has really got the Villa fans, and detractors alike, confused. There are quite a few sources close to the club (Villa) that are adamant the deal is in it's final stages but won't be completed until DM returns from his holiday next week. Despite what people may think on Merseyside, Villa have the money to give Moyes the backing he needs to step up. When I say step up, I don't mean Villa, I mean the top 4 job that he has long been touted for, Villa can be that further stepping stone he needs to further prove himself because they can, and are willing to spend.

EDIT: Just read the comments referring to me talking "out of my arse". Interesting. Sounding very much like the Sunderland fans in the hours before Villa spent 18 million on Darren Bent.

I will stand by my post and will be back on here when it happens next week.

I dont know how much we'll spend. Because I, like you, are not the clubs accountant. Most ITK's (again, reliable) say we WILL be spending.

Can Lerner afford it? Yes. The club cant afford it - IF we qualify for Europe. But with Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and Utd all spending - If we dont (and this applies to Everton too), the Fair Play rules will never apply to us though, because we will not qualify for Europe.

I get your point about the debt, I really do. but we pay minimal interest and compared to other PL debt it is not that bad. the amount is bad yes. But again, the Fair Play rules will never apply to Villa or Everton unless they win a cup or finish 5th or above. Neither of our clubs will be able to do either of those things without spending. It's a vicious cycle but the choices are

a) spend, get a squad together and build up. miss out on Europe for a couple of seasons when UFFP kicks in and hope for the best
b) Spend nothing. Hope the clubs that inevitably finish above us fail to qualify because of Uefa FFP.

B is more of a risk, when you consider how close both of our clubs were to relegation at some point during the season (us obviously much worse off than you guys, but until 2nd half of season you guys were down there too)

Wheres the poster on here who always quotes Ferris Buellar? Seems apt...

The Football League - enmasse have decided TODAY to apply the UEFA Fair Play Criteria to all 72 clubs.

I'm expecting the Premier League to follow suit. Requiring all 20 members to also.

And it also affects you regardless. Its a THREE YEAR monitoring period, meaning if you mess up in year one, it affects you possibly for the next three seasons. So spending now, could affect you up to the 2014/2015 season! And beyond.

Ridiculous.

Go check your last 3 years of financial accounts!

Neither of us were ever going to get relegated to be fair. We finished on 54 points, in the end.

The truth is that both of us have given breaking into the elite a real go, we got 4th once and were in the top 4 until an end of season slump another time, you had two seasons when you were in competition til easter then ended up finishing 6th. We both reached cup finals and then lost, we both reached semi finals and then lost. You spent an awful lot more money then we did to achieve that mind but we were both knocking on the door.

And then Spurs and City spent loads and just left us both for dead. And now the elite is six clubs and our task is looking a lot harder. I still think we can break into it, but it'll be tough and we certainly can't do it by throwing money around, because we don't have any.

It'll be just as tough for you, if not more so, and Lerner has tried throwing money around without success, none of us knows whether he's going to keep on throwing money into the club or not. I would say either way is equally likely to be honest.

But I sincerely hope that you do crash and burn. If we never play you off the pitch for 90 minutes only or lose to a wonder goals from Ashley fecking Young ever again it'll be too bloody soon.

I do. He's only allowed to put in £12million a season under the financial regulations.

Compare that to their eye watering £37million and £42 million loses of recent years. That's 1/3 of the amount they're annually losing now.

So he'll not be physically able to.

I understand the rules. like i said. The options are spend and MISS OUT ON EUROPE FOR A WHILE but have a squad capable of it. Or B. Be well run, dont have a squad capable of Europe and hope the clubs above do not qualify.

Yes the Football League has, presuming rules will change for the prem is irrellevant. I am also wondering how many of the FL teams we manage this as so many are currently in vast amounts of debt...(this doesnt pertain to Villa or Everton) but it will be interesting to see how it works out. Tellign the top clubs to cut down their wages is easy(er) but the whole of English football will be a considerable task.

But as it stands. It only applies to Europe or Championship and below teams. Also, I will be surprised if the PL pass this through any time soon, but part of me hopes they do as the game is in dissarray. However, I saw an interview a couple of weeks ago with the PL who said they were not in favour of it for the whole prem as they didnt want to stop benefactors coming in and helping their club out all together (they used Fulham as their example)

I don't have the time to check my last 3 years of financial accounts but I appreciate your concern. Anyway, back to football, if you are insinuating that Aston Villa do not have cash to spend then you are way off the mark. When MON left there was all sorts of bull**** claiming that he went because the club are broke. Enter Darren Bent. As one poster pointed out, Villa have recouped a fair amount of money and re-invested it. They will get another 15 mil for Ashley Young and will recoup a huge amount of money (from wages) from the departure of MON's misfits such as Sidwell, Warnock, Beye etc. You really should base your posts on informed opinion rather than regurgitating nonsense from Football365 and the like.

19 clubs except Blackpool applied for a club licence last year.

They could accept a rule in the Premier League that all must apply, and therefore to get it - this would require them to go through the whole process.

This could have implications for financing from banks and insurance implications if it's denied. Going forward, as it reflects on the financial health of the businesses - the football clubs.

So mate, bigger picture is - it applies to anyone and everyone. Those with out it could face difficulty getting finance or insurance!

I've told people on this thread before, UEFA are fronting this because they're frightened to death the EU Commission under power given from the Lisbon Treaty will take this regulatory power from them.

Its not UEFA, it's the European Union that are telling them to get a grip of football finance.

You sold to buy.

This isn't a Sunderland forum. This is an Everton forum.

Your biggest mistake.
