Bottling as in playing too defensive when there is no need. Martinez gets his tactics spot on most of the time.
Wigan are 18th -- they probably need to be defensive almost every single game they play. They should probably be MORE defensive actually. Regardless ...

I would pretty much have no way to ever conclude a team other than Everton is "bottling" it under that criteria because I don't watch enough non-EFC football to come to that conclusion with any certainty.

Which brings me to this: not trying to be funny but how much have you watched Martinez's teams? Not looking to judge you if you've watched a lot ... this is a genuine question. Have you watched his teams often enough to really know for sure how he reacts to those types of situations? Not just once or twice you saw him bring on an attacking sub -- that doesn't mean he does that all the time. Have you genuinely seen it enough times to conclude you like his style?

You can't compare Moyes win percentage against Martinez. For the fact that he hasnt managed Everton. To even give that as a point is ridiculous. The gulf in quality of both squads is ridiculous.

In reality Martinez should be able to do a much better job here than at Wigan an ape could agree with that.

But if Martinez's tactics are spot on most of the time, even with resources at Wigan he'd be winning more surely?

But surely a master tactician would be able to bridge the gulf in quality?

To put it another way, Martinez loss % would be considerably higher than Moyes. Surely if your Wigan manager first and foremost your tactics are to avoid defeat?

OK it is unfair to compare Everton and Wigan due to resources (after all they spend £20m a year less than us on wages)

But perfectly fair to compare Everton to Liverpool (they only spend £100m more than us a year)

You cant possibly know that.

When Wigan go to Anfield they are expected to lose, so no pressure, its nothing like when Everton go to Anfield.

So you cant know how Martinez handles pressure, cos hes never had any, he manages a team in which 90% of its fanbases first sport is Rugby, they are expected to lose every single game.

pretty sure everyone's expected us to lose in the majority of derbies under moyes as well though

Not sure you should be name calling.
