right guys, i think whoever comes in has a hell of a job job to do. we have a good but ageing small squad. moyes did well to get away to be fair before this became so obvious..... at some point in the next 3 years we need to rebuild. if the new guy doesn't we are screwed, plain and simple....

in fact what i hope for is paul lambert, to be ballsy enough to say "**** this season, hope we stay up, but here we go", its gotta be done at some point.... last years youth squad welcome to the premier league... you are first teamers, off you go.

at least we have 11 good first team players, as opposed to villas zero good first team players.

we have 11 maybe 14 first team players. thats not good enough, and the majority are 28+...

i hope the new guy can sort our squad out. i still dont know who i want, i just want them to bring through some players

we apparently have an ageing squad because moyes never ever uses our youth. would you say we have an ageing squad if we had a manager who rightfully chose duffy over heitinga, played barkley more, gave junior a chance instead of neville and hitz, gave vellios more of a chance over the out of form jelavic. maybe even give someone like lundtram a chance when ossie's going through his seasonal patch of bad form. Kennedy possibly has a point to be our second choice right midfielder behind mirallas (is not a favoured position of all the other options that actually play there).

who know's maybe most of these guys are good enough to be in our first team but were given little to no chance to actually prove it - i wouldn't say our squad is particularly ageing, moyes just made it look that way

Based on what ?

His excellent organisation of the Porto defence, as I posted above:

Well for a start, Pereira's Porto had the best defensive record in Portgual, conceding just 14 goals all season, in a 30 game season, scoring 70 goals, resulting in a +56 goal difference.

The next best defensive record in Portugal was Benfica (conceded 20), and after that, Pacos Ferreira (conceded 29).

So it's safe bet to say that Pereira has a far better grasp of how to organise a defence than Martinez has (conceded 73, goal difference of -26, 3rd worst in the Prem).
