Wouldn't be so sure he won't come for Baines. Evra is on his last legs butner unproven. Really wouldn't suprise me if he came in for Baines offering us butner on loan in return.

It's funny, as much as I want to keep both fellaini and Baines IF moyes had still been manager, trusting his transfer dealings if we'd been offered say:

20M - tv money
15M - Baines fee
30M - Fellaini fee

65M for moyes to reinvest in our team I would of been very tempted with that.
Well, you say 65m, but we all know in reality he'd have gotten about 25.

Baines does a lot for our team, no way I would want to lose him to money bags. The only positive I can take out of this is Man u might not want to pay 20 million for him due to his age, that why I wanted to know how long left on his contract too see how much control we have of this.

its gonna be a bad time to be buying quality this summer though, loads of clubs with stupid money to spend, lesser players being hyped up before the world cup. could be a much better position keeping what you have and looking round for unsung gems. If we got 25 to 30 mill for Fellaini, it may sound like a lot of money, but a sensible manager and the player himself should be thinking that a year playing in his right position and a starring role for Belgium and 25 to 30 million is a steal. a bigger offer and even a better club could be after him next summer. maybe he will stick with us even then and try his hand in the CL with us.
As far as Baines goes Evra is hardly a liability and Butters has looked promising, so 15 mill for someone pushing 30 doesn't sound like the kind of business United would expect to do. No-one else seems likely to appeal to him or come in for him

Based on his most recent dealings with big money (after selling Lescott), I wouldn't - but maybe not having enough time before end of transfer window then was a big reason. He seemed to work better when doing one transfer at the time or loans with view for permanent transfers.

Evra on last legs? I agree he's not as good as he was 2-3 years ago, but still good enough and is too important as one of the captains to get replaced at the moment. United would probably go for Luke Shaw as his understudy over Baines. Plus, Glaziers are not big fans of buying players who are on the wrong side of 28 years of age.

Think there's a limit to the value of a player like Fellaini. Clubs just don't tend to pay £30million + for a defensive midfielder.

in fact I reckon the press probably know what Fellaini could end up worth and that's why they want him off to Manchester or London now. as for Baines they have been quoting stupid figures like 4 mill...they have no clue

Moyes first game as EFC manager against Fulham fielded this side:

Simonsen; Hibbert, Weir, Stubbs, Pistone; Gemmill, Gravesen , Carsley, Unsworth , Ferguson, Radzinski .

Why do people say he inherited shte?

I raise this because of the anti Martinez sentiment comparing unfavorably his 4 years at Wigan to Moyes. I'd take the above side to survive in the Prem every day of the week - might not win much but tasked with survival? No problem at all.

From this steady base and the acceptance of transition by the fans Moyes getting transfer funds and the burgeoning talent of Rooney to come puts him in a completely different league to Martinez.

Whelan turned the money taps off post Bruce and Jewell (in reality the only reason Wigan were ever in the top div.) and Martinez had his best players sold - together with the wages slashed by over 20%!!!!
Factor in what top player is drawn to "wigan" and it's mission impossible unless you do something different. The accepted route is everyone back, be solid, hoof it and hope, but this is the fate of Birmingham, Wolves, Hull, Bradford, Coventry etc far more go down with the "accepted wisdom" and usually within their first season than all guns blazing.

This is the great hope with Martinez he believes in meeting challenges offensively.

We have no real money our ONLY hope is via improvement in the last third by either ambitious youth development in house or cheap imports from the south americas/spain etc where lads don't have the technique coached out of them.

I've been convinced since I saw his Swansea side built from nothing playing like Brazil 1970 in the lower divisions (again another impossibility according to the pros). if you're fair minded and consider the truth about Wigan you look past this years relegation and admire the fight he put up right to the end of his tenure and acclaim the FA cup for what it was - vindication of bravery against all odds.

Our history abounds with "out of nothing" the great phoenix of success suddenly rising the only thing missing is a dynasty. We need a man of vision to look long term to do a Shankly or Busby and lay unbreakable foundations while pulling the strings of the first team.... he is loyal, bright, assured, knows english football, proven in the big games and quite clearly WANTS to be here ..... nothing against the other names .... but if you believe in destiny he lives on our doorstep but turned down LFC for a reason.

Martinez is "chosen" and in his heart he knows.

Top post this!

I don't see him as defensive mid though so much as the complete midfielder. a player who can win the ball all round the park, control it with any part of his body, a threat from set pieces, moves the ball quickly and cleverly and uses space the way Roy Keane used to. totally invaluable if you get them confident. look at the difference a confident ya ya toure made for City

Yaya Toure cost man city £24million. I can't think of one player of Fellaini's type that has cost more than £30million.

Terrible day for Everton Football Club coming up this week.

When will our fans wake up and claim back their club

the new manager will not have my support....tough but that's what you get when you allow owners to run ri

over and out sheeples.

Wrong forum mate, you should be on RAWK!

Essien was close to 30m when Chelsea bought him from Lyon, but it was at times when it was very difficult (and pricey) to buy players from them.

Edit: He was 24m pounds as well. Don't think there are other examples. Maybe if any of Danielle De Rossi rumous would materialized in the past, but without it...

yeah maybe but that was a steal too I reckon and didn't they pretty much have to sell. you maybe right but if I look round the league and beyond a dominating midfielder is something every team is crying out for, even more than a 25-30 goal striker, and as the press are quoting 24 million I reckon they know he is worth more when we don't have to sell
