I'm trying to take a step back here, trying to read between the lines. The most logical conclusion I can only come to is that compensation probably has been agreed, but negotiations with Martinez himself are still ongoing. What concerns me is the fact that Whelan has gone public against Everton's wishes. Is Whelan trying to screw the deal up? It wouldn't surprise me. My instincts tell me that this is going to rumble on for longer than we wished. Everton might just walk away from the deal altogether, leaving us back to square one. The fact though that Everton have gone public with that statement doesn't bode well for the deal to go through.

If he is, I hope he succeeds :) But sadly I don't think so, I think Bill has simply met his match in the most embarrassing Chairman category. If only it were true though!! b)

It looks like a formality but...

Maybe the exact opposite mate, Whelan wants Martinez gone. I know that sounds far fetched but think about it.
It's not like Martinez can stay at Wigan now, the environment would be toxic. Whelan would need to release him.

The funny thing is Kenwright might well have negotiated a release fee in order to complete his due diligence around what each of the packages were going to cost the club before formalising any offers.

Pereira might be asking for too much money? I thought is was public knowledge that Moyes was on 6M a yr.
Kenwright is probably trying to low ball the candidates into accepting a fraction of that. Didn't the 2M number come from Martinez's salary per annum.

As unlikely as it seems now.. It might still be Vitor.

i think its obvious whats happening/happened.
the board have martinez 'up there' as a candidate , before they move ahead , they have checked on the fee they would have to pay if they do appoint him.
dave whelan has been foolish , jumped the gun ,and yet again is doing his business through sky.
everton , once they knew the fee was something they could pay , now know they can move forward with martinez discussions if the wanted to.
it doesnt mean martinez is done or that hes number 1 contender or even that hes the only person there at the final stages with.

Dave whelan has just announced the sex of prince William's and Kate middletons baby before they did #WhelanFacts

Whelan is such a ****in grass he announces the the lottery number before the ****in lottery do #WhelanFacts

these need too get goin. hilarious like

I think I'm going to have a breakdown if this thing doesn't end soon!

Sadly I think there's more chance of snow this week than it being Vitor

Don't disagree with you but stranger things have happened.

It sounds like Everton has run a legitimate interview process.
I for one know of many who have sat through 3 or even 4 interviews at an exec level only to miss out on the role. Some had even negotiated packages.

Martinez was always going to get it. The club statement is just a hissy fit due to Bill being robbed of the opportunity to share the appointment with his clubs fanbase himself - but rent a quote Whelan jumped the gun. It won't affect the outcome - we're getting Martinez

SSN did say on their report that DW had told them only the compensation had been agreed by both clubs, after compo agreement today, & Martinez had to decide & negotiate a contract with EFC before it was officially confirmed he would be our new Manager- EFC statement tonight reiterates that point IMO!

No organisation of any note would negotiate packages with prospective candidates without a formal offer being on the table
