No organisation of any note would negotiate packages with prospective candidates without a formal offer being on the table

What's the process though? We couldn't offer Martinez the job without first coming to a compromise for him to be released from his contract. It's the same with player transfers, isn't it? Fee first and then move on to terms.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan confirmed that a compensation package has been agreed with Everton for the services of Martinez.
He told BBC 5Live on Monday night: 'I agreed terms with the chairman at Everton, Bill, about 6 o'clock this evening. Bill and myself have sorted out the compensation and Roberto is free to do a deal with Everton now if he wants.
'I gave Roberto permission to speak to Everton last week. He came back and told me it had gone well, I think he was down to the last two or three on the list, and then their chairman rang me to discuss the compensation deal and we agreed that this evening. It sounds like he'll be the next Everton manager but, football being football, sometimes you can be wrong.

And on that note, I'm off to bed. Lets hope it gets settled in the morning, Bill loves dragging this out

I think that Whelan is generally indiscreet. It would have perhaps been an idea to get him to sign a confidentiality contract as part of the deal.

Presumably we're gathering the facts before we make a formal offer. It would be embarrassing to offer Martinez the job and then find that we couldn't agree compensation with Wigan.

Bill is starting to make us look very silly in all this.

Think what 3 or 4 managerial changes already so far and none have been so drawn out and cloak and dagger as ours is.

It's Just so typical bill/Everton this whole saga!!

I didn't join GOT to discuss/read the tripe on here about religion, sex, sexuality and other topics best saved for other forums. Best stop it now before someone gets genuinely upset and proper reports something on here. "NO NEED".

On the other hand some of the comments are pure genius even the p@ss poor ones and I have laffed so much at the replies it really makes me miss my home town and the famous acidic humour. Thanks. From a White, Scouse, straight, married, non practicing left footer blue nose, in China. "Everton, The People's Club" - David to the Evertonians. We thank you for this forever Ginge.
