We're going to have managers and their people linking themselves through the media because they want the job and because they want rises , bill testing fan interest and support , unemployed managers like Hughes whoring themselves unashamedly , members of staff leaking their names that they are/aren't interested , chairman distancing their managers , talksport jumping on every passing bandwagon , the echo doing the chairman's bidding , dave whelan on sky 24/7 bigging up Martinez and claiming we aren't a top club all in all it's going to be a long few weeks.

no insider info then on who the board are looking at?

Who do ya fancy Sheeds?

No obvious candidates. Michael laudrup would be my choice I guess. He knows Spanish football very well, has made some astute signings with little money to play with. He would instantly have the respect of our senior players due to the clubs he has played for. I have also found him to being good with the media and has respect from his peers.

If we go outside the usual dogged managers I'd like Laudrup, Di Matteo or Ole Gunnar Solskjear.

If we go from within, I would give Neville a go.

Phil Neville. He has respect of dressing room , loads of experience under both managers and worth a go

And he´s in Uniteds pocket, just like Moyes was. Haven´t we had enough of that?

For me, if there´s one thing I request from our next manager it´s that it´s someone not at all associated with Man Utd.

Here's the crux of the matter: 10 years ago we couldn't have got any worse without re-appointing Mike Walker. Moyes was a refreshing change, an exciting gamble, and an inspiring character. He had fight, drive and grit. He was limited (at first) but he was just what we needed.

Today, we realistically can't get any better. The loans we may have earnt off the back of Moyes' good reputation will dry up. Our top players will leave. The lack of stability will be deeply unsettling at first. Unless we appoint the ideal candidate - from which we have a very, very small selection pool - we are just on a downward curve. Whether that will be a slide or a spiral depends on just how bad the appointment is. For now at least, the best we can hope for is a plateau, a levelling off. Just keep us at this level and whoever we appoint will have done brilliantly.
