It's odd that the number of people who ask me who I'd like to see as our next manager. I can't answer. All I know, from the names that are mentioned, who I don't want! Hughes, Lennon, O'Neill, Martinez, McClaren, Mackay. Sure, who gives a **** what I think?

Benfica are a fine team, Sporting are a decent team normally (beat us remember) and Braga are a pretty good team (done well in europe of late).

Europe is really the only way to judge and portuguese teams tend to do pretty well in it, even maratimo and Academica haven't disgraced themselves.

Over the last five years portuguese teams have won more games in europe than italian or french teams, you know?

So that's means the Portuguese league is more competitive than the French and Italian league?

It's all well and good saying a few teams other than Benfica, Sporting, and Porto do okay, but the fact remains none of them challenge those top sides in the league.

In Europe I'd say the do okay is because they're technically fluid, pop up with the odd world class player, and are probably suited to it up against other European teams.

But we're talking managers compared to others and their credentials. How tough is the league they manage to be successful in?

It's like porn though, everyone wants to see how the foreigners do it. We've had enough of picturing ginger Scots in their y-fronts, he needs to be dripping in ambre solaire from base to tip to facilitate the easy passage of sword to scabbard. Get it in there monsieur.

Mourinho and AVB come out if that league, oh and that exact same club and Vitor Pereira worked as the 2nd hand man to AVB and since he's left he's done an okay job. Both Mourinho and AVB ain't done too badly in the PL either.

Why do they do so well in european competition? Over the last 4 years they have had 4 different teams compete in the champions league and this year they'll add another. If you think that only Benfica and Porto have done well in european competition. Check out Sporting and Braga's european record. Theres a reason their league get 2 automatic places in the champions league group stage.

So the standard of the league is what then?

Check out Bragas league titles rather than European matches won.

Your boy from Porto is being bigged up for what he's done in his league and a decent champions league run.

Well... Neil Lennon did a similar job. But because Scotland doesn't have boss coefficients points, that league isn't I'm vogue. But the Porto bloke does something the same in their context, he's hot ****.

It's a fair point.

All speculation really. Unfortunately we have to take a chance on someone making the step up, because those managers proven at the very top level won't come here.

True. But I'm just also throwing in the counter argument championing this Porto feller over Martinez as both managers have worked in completely different leagues in different circumstances.

The success in the toughest circumstances and how they've managed it will always come out on top for me

Apparently tomorrow's Telegraph says the club are going to make an official approach to Malky Mackay, how reliable is the Telegraph? If it's true so much for Bill listening to the fans!

They've both shown the mentality to win in tough circumstances. Porto came down from 1-0 at home against the league leaders to win 2-1 and all but steal the title.

Martinez won the Fa Cup vs the richest club in the world.

Both have that winning mentality that we seem to lack but yeah the martinez achievement is more impressive.

Scotland's pretty much a 1 horse race, and Lennon is a ****.

Porto is a two horse race with a much better standard of players. Worth noting Porto have gone unbeaten in the league this season.

Anyone wanting anyone other than Martinez after that cup run needs to have a look at their head. He knows how to win IMPORTANT games through shear bravery and lack of fear. You will never see the steady ship of 4-5-1 again at Goodson. It will be free attacking football. Imagine Mirallas in the role Mcmanaman played today he would have had 4 or 5.

I cant even imagine what he could do with a better standard of player like ours. Martinez now! pay the compensation and get him in!
