Neville imo would make a good number two, but not the manager.

His professionalism is something to be admired and that would almost certainly rub off on the players.

He is a good speaker to the media and knows the club inside out. He is no doubt also well respected among the squad and, off the pitch, well liked by the fans.

I would hate him to become manager, but let's face it there is no reason why he wouldn't make an excellent assistant.

I always felt he comes across as a bit daft. Am I wrong?

Oh aye, he is a bit of a plank like but he has all the qualities a good assistant requires, imo.

I for one wouldn't be gutted with him in that role.

Especially with a foreign manager.

I hope that happens.

I do think he'll go to United though.

I can only assume that people are suggesting Benitez because he's won La Liga with Valencia and the Champions League with Liverpool.

Firstly, at Valencia, he inherited an already very good side that had been built by his predecessor, Hector Cuper.

Secondly, the Champions League win has got to be the jammiest cup win I've ever seen. They were battered by Milan for most of the match, but somehow hung on. They also rode their luck on countless occasions in the run up to the final.

Thirdly, for any decent signings he's made he's wasted so much more on flops. This fact alone should be enough to discount him, as we need to be very careful with what little transfer money there is available.

Fourthly, he's a complete c**t!

Pretty much this. I've even heard some people suggest that it would be worth getting him just to wind up the RS. I do NOT want a manager who thinks our club is small. Plus he's not even that good, I'm sure we'd all love to see Benayoun leading us out next season FFS...

What a waste of the last eleven years that would be.

Why do people still want Neville at the club, he stole a living here for the last three years. Honest to god, did you not watch vs Wigan or Oldham?

you don't have to be a good player to be a good coach

Point 4 is enough on its own

I don't think Neville/Stubbs are necessarily worse options than Martinez. They know the club and may show a ruthless streak as managers. Someone who knows the club and has their ideas and won't be wasteful is required. Wouldn't it be great if we didn't sell Fellaini/Baines? If we only sell the likes of Jelavic/Anichebe/Heitinga, buy a cheap bargain c/b for cover, a couple of strikers and involve Duffy more. Rotate and involve Barkley more and sign two strikers and start putting Vellios on the bench again. That is what is required.

If Moyes stayed we'd definitely sell Fellaini this summer as he'd want money to spend. But he's under contract and may yet stay.

BK will no way go for Benitez, he's scared of fans turning against him.

Just by being involved so much this year in a top 6 side, Anichebe could fetch us £4-5m. Heitinga should still get us £4m+ and Jelavic could get around the same. I was no fan of Fellaini but he's improved so much and though it's consensus he'll leave I'd like to keep him at all costs.

like ive already said , he wont be my first choice but i would back neville if he got the job.i think hes got a good future as a manager ahead of him. worked under 2 great managers and played with some of the best players , succesfull , known within the game , decent pro , nice chap and knows the club.

and those of you even considering benitez , im disgusted an evertonian would even consider such a heinous ex red individual.

Nobody's saying Benitez is their first choice, he isn't anyone tenth choice even. People are just pointing out that there would be some positives involved with signing him.

No, there wouldn't. His name shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Everton. Or maybe we're not such a 'small club' now the waiter is about to be jobless??

Can only see Bet365 offering a price and he is 40/1 there. A lot of money moving on Rafael B though...

Prob RAWK having a wind up though.

Looking at oddschecker the best you can get for Benitez is 16/1 but he's still 40/1 on Betfair so if anyone fancies him I'd get on it now.
