eh? This thread's worse than useless if people are just making stuff up to support their candidate.

 I'll be honest I didn't even read the argument, but when I hear/read someone saying something like 'here's the facts' it immediately reminds me of that Rafael interview.

Can the people going on about Martinez get a few facts straight. 1 for all of this "he only got relegated because of lack of funds". The idea that with our superior funds, it would not be a problem. The simple truth is, our wage bill is a lot closer to Wigans, than to Spurs', (never mind Liverpool, Arsenal etc).

He got relegated for loads of reasons, and he's not totally clear of blame - he is/was the manager after all.
But lets have it right - Wigan had the odds stacked highly against them from the off. For all the reasons that have been posted already (consistently sold best players over last 3, 4 years, most of their defenders have had long-term injuries this season etc, etc). You're right we don't have a massive wage budget but with moyes, neville and most prob fellaini leaving us there is room for manoeuvre. Plus he'll have the added strength of managing a club who good players have heard of and would actually consider playing for.

Secondly when asked if wnning the FA cup would cover up a poor league performance, Martinez himself said that cup success would not make up for "not meeting their targets in the league". This season has been an abject failure from him, as you are judged on league performance.

Yeah can we refer to what I'll term, the 'Klopp Rule'. A good manager can get relegated and winning the FA cup was an incredible achievement. If most evertonians were totally honest with themselves they'd agree that Everton never play that well in the big games against the big teams (and I've always been 100% Moyes fan)

The fact he has managed to finish below the might Steve Bruce, and Paul Jewel should set the alarm bells ringing. I am always very nervous when a manager is said to "play attacking football" as normally it is a justification deficiencies in other areas. You can't measure "good football", it is subjective. We can measure league perfomance, and Martinez has been disastrous this season.

The prem gets more competitive each year and Wigan have been haemorrhaging good players since the days of Bruce and Jewel, so I wouldn't use that as a stick to beat him with. For instance, we finished 6th this season when the Marcus Bent Everton finished 4th - but I doubt there's anyone who'd swap back to that side.

Also, this attacking football doesn't suffice. They have scored less goals than us this season. Don't confuse an inability to defend with playing attacking football. I have never seen Wigan play, anything close to how we played against West Ham on Saturday.

Of course they've scored less goals than us, our team is twice as good as theirs. You say you've never seen Wigan play (did you not watch our cup game?) But if you saw the cup final you'd see they do actually play a really attractive and fun to watch style of play.

We are Everton for christ sake. We do not, and should not appoint someone who has just relegated a team. Is that how low fans expectations have sunk under this board? That because he played "attacking football" and he beat an off colour City side (and the Mighty Millwall in the semi's) that we are now going to accept Relegation Man as a good appointment? 15 years Kenwright have had it's impact by the looks of things.

'Klopp-rule' etc.
As well as everything else that has been said in support of Martinez, I'd like to add that he's somebody who was determined to become a football manager and showed drive to go and make it happen. Dunc, Weir, Stubbs etc could take a leaf out of his book in that respect.

As someone said, i think its nailed on to be Martinez with Neville to be his assistant. Its also nailed on that we will be in the boftom half of the table. If there is to be any 'progression' from the Moyes era, it will need a change in the boardroom to facilitate it, not the dressing room.

Just like to point out to all the people sad to see Moyes go...

Moyes made it a point to extend the contracts of his best players.

For some reason, the board didn't do the same with the manager they all proclaim to love. Or did they and Moyes refused to sign? Or did he refuse to sign to see what they said about money? Where's the blame? Who's to blame?

Great post and it is sad because Everton deserve better.

I seriously hope this doesn't happen, like the ridiculous situation at Chelsea. We'd suffer badly I think.

I agree. On this manager situation I can happily join the anti-board/anti-Kenwright mob. Moyes is/was the figurehead of a business with a what £75/£80m turnover. By far and away he is/was the most important person at the club. To let him run down the contract like he did was a joke. To keep him on after he signed for United was a joke and to not have a ready list of successors is a joke.

For what it's worth, there's a rumour going around that Phil Neville has also had an interview for the vacant Doncaster Rovers managers job, Doncaster just promoted to the Championship.

In our eyes yes, unfortunately not in Mourinho's and Klopp's.

Like I said I am not convinced by Martinez at all. I can see us getting something like 12th if he is in charge. And 12th is not good enough for a club like Everton. We need to stay in the top 7 at least.
