Moyes to Sunderland

What period in our History were we more at risk mate, im stumped by that, imagine us getting relegated in the 90s/00's

Coventry, Wimbledon two quick examples.

Probably a little closer to relegation than we were in that March Moyes took over?

I also think of times under Johnson, miles away from what Moyes enjoyed under Kenwright.

I just don't subscribe to the Sam Allardyce school of Everton being a nothing club before Moyes took over - content with just existing in the top 10 and a cup final every 10 years.

See i dont separate that, days like Wimbledon and Coventry were the systemic problem, it was the same period of adversity, Moyes brought the solution, we were in the relegation zone when he took over. Equally you say Johnson as opposed to Kenwright, but he won a trophy under him? Under the logic of your argument that makes him a successful chairman or history will judge him so.

I don't think anyone is stating the SA theory mate, we have a long illustrious history, i actually dont even thing thats a real thing, ive certainly never heard an Evertonian or even the media assert it. What we were at the time were in a massive period of risk and peril where a threat to our history and longevity was hanging by a thread.

If your going to own success, you have to own the periods of decline, they both go into making our history and identity, there are heroes on both sides of those periods in our history.

Moyes made a massive contribution and is a hero for me.

AND, built the Park End.

Moyes did alright, but remove emotion, remove context which time will inevitably do and he's more failure than success.

If Moyes is a hero, why don't you want him back?

I would in a heartbeat. I'm sick of being made to feel like we can compete with clubs that spend more than us and that we're not a little club fighting against the tide.

Do not get me started on Johnson, ha you know how to get me going, you may as well say Tim Howard is our greatest goal keeper. lol But its a good example will hitstory judge him as a good chairman and ignore the context?

I suppose history is as good as the people reading it, so its a presumption on what you believe people will take from it or how much context will color their opinion. Will Brum fans think Alex McCleish is their greatest manager ever after he won a trophy and then got them relegated, where they have been since. Will Pompey fan love Redknapp after he won the cup via bankrupting the club and going of to manage Southampton, will Michael Laudrup be considered Swanseas greatest ever manager? Im not sure, i dont think context is wholly ignored.

I would have Moyes back here, not as manager now as he doesnt have the skill set to develop a club from 6th - 1st. I would have him in a senior footballing management role: Head of scouting, a director of football or Royles role in the future, no problem. If we were in decline id have him back as manager as well.

Such an Everton thing this. I would like to think if we were in decline there would be more managers to chose from.

He can come back if we need a tea lady.

I don't think we were in as much danger of relegation when Moyes took over as we were in the Wimbledon and Coventry seasons. When he took over we were in 15th with at least three teams -- Ipswich, Derby and Leicester -- who were much more abysmal, IMO. The big risk some talk about here is being relegated in the era of big TV money and missing out on that cash cow.

Doesn't this happen with Sunderland every season? They are dead and buried with a horrible looking run-in and somehow turn into world beaters from April onwards? Why would anyone think this season will be any different?

Their squad is so threadbare at the moment. They need to hang in there until they can get players back, or get new signings in (if the owner lets them). They went on a decent run earlier in the season, no reason why that can't happen again.

If I was Moyes I would sell Kone and maybe even Van Aanholt, free up funds to bring new faces in. Kone doesn't really want to be there anyway, not what you need in a relegation scrap

Moyes had a terrific eye for a bargain on a shoestring budget, but never really spent the big money particularly well.

Nope, tea lady. I want him in a pinny and a dress and everything.

Take it or leave it Moyesey. There are thousands who would take the job.

Let's put that to David to see what his reaction is:

"I'd like to think that a David Moyes cup of tea is going to be set up well, consistent and gives 110% to whoever drinks it. David Moyes knows how to make a cup.."

Good job he knows how to make one as he's never going to win one...

Looks like Moyesey is on board papa ;)

Because they now have a manager who cant win a big game to save his life and all those games will be massive for them.
