Think he's going to be an excellent player for us and that tenacity in midfield he has is something special. He doesn't quite have the same athletic qualities McCathy has as far as tearing all over the field and winning the ball back is concerned, but he has proper aggression and I think he'll develop nicely.

My one criticism would be that his passing is suspect. On Saturday I was baffled by the fact that he was getting a free pass from our fans for the mistakes he made in the first half. He very nearly cost us a couple of goals with decisions he made with the ball, but nobody got on his back once when he gave it away. When Barkley or Barry did the same thing there was dogs abuse from everyone sat around me.

I actually got to half time and was really disappointed with him. Without the ball he was brilliant, with it he was every bit as much of a liability as Jagielka. In fairness he was magnificent in the second half in both respects, so I wouldn't want to make out that I'm being too critical but it does bug me that because he displays the right demeanour (looks like he cares, snaps into tackles etc) he gets let off when he nearly costs us. Someone like Barry, who was magnificent last season and had a great game on Saturday I thought, got all kinds of abuse whenever he picked the wrong ball or even played a sideways pass. Frustrates me the unequal treatment that players get just because one is a favourite and another isn't.

Back to the original point, Besic is going to be boss. If he ever learns to pass the ball as intelligently as Barry, he'll be a really special player.

Overally I agree with You but I see his main problem differently (altough I had little heart attacks too during those mentioned passes). His passing from my point of view is very good but sometimes far too risky. At these occasions he loses the ball in dangerous areas or makes a tough pass. He will develop at this but be strong: he will play with a little risk in his whole carrier. He never will be a 'comfort' player.

Having Barry around training can only benefit him. He drops deep like Barry to pick the ball up off the centre-halves which I love because I don't rate anyone but Stones kicking it more than 5 yards at the minute, and when he gets his positional sense a little more trained he'll play much more "cautious" with his passing but still always looking to push forwards which McCarthy doesn't do as much. Future partnership there to rival the best in the league (Schneiderlin/Wanyama at the minute).

If we do get a new cb to partner stones I'd love to see mo as the captain i like McCarthy but besic just disputes every decision the next captain needs to be in the middle of the park so it's either Ross Besic McCarthy I'd go with mo
