Yesterday proved again why he is not required in a fully fit first XI as we ripped Young Boys open at will first half. He slows everything down too much. The moment he came off against Leicester the game opened up and we looked threatening every time we went forward. But for 2 Howard disasters we would have won comfortably once he came off.

Its great to see Osman and Gibson back in the fold as we will now see some proper footballers in the middle of the park alongside Barry and McCarthy, rather than some disciplinary liability and defensive crab like Besic.

Behave mate.

Behave mate.
I will not 'behave mate'. Besic is what he is - a fake hardman running around getting carded for kicking the ball away while offering nothing going forward. The difference in class between him and Osman and/or Gibson is so obvious. Gibson was magnificent yesterday - for me he has to be part of a 3 man midfield with Barry and McCarthy with Osman spelling him.

Besic can go back to Bosnia for all I care.

Yep, did you see Besic last night running around kicking people and getting booked? It's called a squad game, good to have options so different players can be used. Nothing going forward? You must have missed that quality ball played out left to Garbutt which opened up the whole left side and which Mirallas nearly scored from.

Sorry as well, I shouldn't have said behave mate, I should have just said behave ;)

Whilst that's obviously OTT, I think there's an element of a good point in there

Besic will be a boss player, but he offers v little going forward at the moment. He likes a tackle and his control and centre of gravity are impressive, but he doesn't offer much from a distribution point of view and doesn't really seem to have an eye for a forward pass.

It's been pretty pathetic when the crowd have booed his substitution. Sunday was a case in point - the crowd booed but it was absolutely the right move to bring Gibson on

Besic is going to be a quality player I think, but a midfield axis of him and McCarthy is one I never wantr to see too much of as ther's just next to zero creativity and quality passing between the two of them, as good as their other attributes are. This is the reason why, despite his poor form at times this season, Barry has clung to his place.

I can see you've earned that reputation underneath that username.

His pass to Garbutt to set up a chance was superb. Cut them apart and took abar 5 players out the game.
He only started playing defensive midfield last Summer, so its a still a relatively new role to him, especially coming into a different League, so the fact he's been as good as he has been is brilliant.

Unfortunately, your pleasure in having Barry and Osman in the side will prove temporary as both players will be 34 by the season end...and not surprisingly, rather knackered. Regarding Besic being a disciplinary liability though, irony-wise you are aware surely that Gareth Barry has the mantle of the worst record in the Premier League ? Mo Besic is coming to terms with the English game in his first season here hence his timing is out somewhat inevitably resulting in cards. His passing however is sublime at times and a good marker for his future with us.

Kev the Rat , talking [Poor language removed] about player who come from Hungary to PL and show he can cope and more. Hes young, hes quick. he have long pass , he can mark and he get stuck in all that for 4 mill. Sorry mate about Football u know [Poor language removed], because last time when he play great game u said u where wrong about him and hes good , that is how u form your opinion . :D

Besic was brilliant last night going forwards, and as a centre defensive midfielder - he did more in ten minutes than MaCarthy who looks still to be carrying an injury - I cannot see what game you were watching - yes he was poor in the first half v Leicester, but who was? He did have our only shot on target in that first half!

I was very impressed with Besic all season as he has never had a run fully in the team - how you think he is a liability is a complete joke imo!

The criticism frim @Kev The Rat is a little harsh but he has a decent general point. In certain games we don't need to play Besic. To me he is a tackling energetic midfielder who spoils the game and quite mobile on the ball.

Rather than slagging Besic what we really need to do is be thankful we have a wide array of central midfield players with different attributes we can use in different games.

Besic is a great option to play in place of McCarthy in a two man midfield or in place of Barry in a three man midfield with Gibbo. He doesn't offer loads going forward. Good thing he's a defensive mid that tackles everything that moves, generally keeps possession well and can man-mark anyone out of a game then, right?
