Gueye
Besic
Davies
Barry
McCarthy
Barkley

...I ask again why we needed to urgently throw £24M at adding to this department?

2 of those players aren't good enough and most people have accepted that now. Gueye Schneiderlin Barkley will in my opinion he first choice with Gueye deepest and the other two further up. Davies and Besic will be cover. All are quick players good on the ball. Barry and McCarthy are each missing one of those qualities.

Of those you mention, one is 16 months from retirement and 2 are likely to be sold before next September. That answers your question David.

You're being incredibly ignorant here so let's break it down.

If everyone is fit and available we have 6 CM's (not including Barkley, just leave that one). How often is this the case?

Barry has played nearly every game out of necessity and it's ignorant to think his form hasn't massively dropped this season. Davies looks a player but a month ago did we think he could be a regular starter? I didn't; he's just a kid.

Barry - Legs going
Gana - AFCON
Besic - Injured
McCarthy - Just returned to fitness, for now
Davies - Nice surprise
Schneiderlin - Not match fit yet

At best this season we've had 2-3 CM's fit with differing form and Davies as a nice surprise before Schneidelin signed.

Get your head out of your arse it was a position that needed strengthening and with over 2 weeks of the transfer window remaining it's premature to say Koeman has failed to prioritise key areas (funny, I didn't know he was in charge of bidding and contract negotiations either :))

Because Schneiderlin will be the best of them when he gets up to speed.

Gueye - Good.
Besic - Injury prone, inconsistent and still not seen anything to show that he can make it as a Premier League player.
Davies - Young. Would rather him get phased into the squad over the next few years.
Barry - 35 this year, turns around slower than the management of a large University.
McCarthy - Not entirely sure what to think of him, capable as being the legs in midfield - but lacks the final ball.
Barkley - Not a CM.

In what club outside the ones who have literally hundreds of millions to waste in each position do they have 6 functioning/soon to be functioning players at CM who are vastly experienced or with great potential now coming to fruition?

Answer: none...apart from Everton. Now we are about to add a 7th to the fold...while we have zero creativity around Lukaku...who we just happen to rely on to keep our heads above the dross?

Gonna have to sign a few more if they're all falling out of cupboards.

Ha Ha.

Ha Ha.

You get round it by doing this crazy thing where you ship poor players out, and buy better ones in. So out go Cleverley Barry Gibson and McCarthy (hopefully) and in come Gueye Schneiderlin Davies to go with Besic and Barkley.

You mean like a kind of transfer system? where you exchange players with other clubs in an effort to improve your team?

I like this idea, but it's a bit far fetched  can't see it taking off

Barry and McCarthy: you've illicitly smuggled them into some 'poor' category.

What a poor waffled response this is. Just face up to the fact that regardless of us needing attacking mids or keepers or whatever we still needed another centre mid.

We didn't and dont. Did you see the game yesterday? In what way would Schneidrlin have improved us? Or put another (and, for us, more pertinent) way: in what way will Schneiderlin help us break down two banks of 4 and 5 next week at Palace?

Two banks of 4 and 5 = 18 players.

Dave, you really are losing it.

Go and have a nice lie down x

It was essential to bring in a CM this window. Anyone who has watched us this season can see that.

Barry, despite playing brilliantly yesterday (against two players who are slower than him was a big factor in this), is getting very ineffective in the majority of matches.

Besic hasn't been fit for 5 consecutive matches since arriving.

McCarthy has big fitness issues and even when playing (in fairness has had a big upturn in recent form), hasn't been great for a couple of seasons. WRD has said today that Newcastle have offered him £95k pw (and I guess a substantial offer to us, maybe even similar to what we've paid for Morgan). He'll be gone.

Davies is brilliant but young, and we can't rely on an 18 year old in midfield.

Gueye is world class.

Morgan is the right age and has proven his quality. I really hope Besic comes back to play regularly but at the same time with his record we can't count on him staying fit.

Yes, we need more players which help breaking down teams. But that's one on many things we needed to add.

Silva and Zabaleta?

Gueye
Besic
Davies
Barry
McCarthy
Barkley

Because Barry can't play at the level of quality we want for more than 60 minutes a match now.

Because Davies is only 18 and may go through fluctuations in form.

Because McCarthy still hasn't convinced anyone he should be starting.

Because Besic is made out of glass.

Because Barkley might be preferred higher up the pitch.
