Just a hunch, really. I don't mind McCarthy but I also think Besic, when healthy, offers more. That pushes McCarthy to No. 5 on the depth chart in my mind and as such the first (after a retired Barry) to get shipped out.

It's a game of opinions I suppose and I'd think McCarthy at his peak is way better than Besic. Both are injury prone and McCarthy has had a rough time of it form wise. But if I had to pick, I'd go McCarthy every time.
I also worry that the blood and thunder element of Besic's game may be missing after that injury.

I am not sure on what this optimistic assessment is based.
Apart from his first season with us when he got a run of games before being dropped he has hardly played for us.
