Confirmed Signing Nathan Patterson

Don’t want to turn this into a Rangers invasion here but just wanted to join to wish Nathan all the best.

He is a fearless player. Regardless of whether he’s playing against Celtic, Peterhead or Lyon he’ll always play the same way and is never afraid of getting forward. Before he had to sit a suspension he was absolutely immense. Him and Aribo tore Celtic apart in a cup game (same game Kenny scored an own goal) and it more or less sent Diego Laxalt who was quite a decent coup for Celtic to get back to Milan.

Naturally as a youngster he can make a few mistakes when on the ball. He had a slow start to a few Scotland games but it never affected his confidence and got better as the game got along. I’d honestly say he’s better in a four rather than in a five man midfield.

Sad to see him go but to make the reported figures for a player that’s only played 27 games is a no brainier to let him go.

All the best for the rest of the season.

Ps I’m not the real Nathan Patterson couldn’t really think of a decent username.
Seen him play for Scotland and been very impressed by the lad. For me, it's the sort of signing that we should be making and I'd be delighted if it is confirmed.

What I don't understand is why he would want to sign to play under such a defensive minded dinosaur like our manager. If Benitez has long enough with this kid he could ruin him.

i imagine people would have been saying similar if we had signed Livramento from Chelsea in the summer, yet he’s been one of the signings of the season! let’s hope Patterson has similar success

We'll get a few crosses from wide right and he has an eye for getting forward at all times; but that can have its pitfalls, and I expect us to be utterly swamped down that flank by any decent team.

He's going to have to be extremely productive setting goals up to be able to justify a place in that already rocky defence.

That makes Strike One for Benitez on this signing for me.

It seems like theres a real chance for him to succeed in the long term but doesn't feel like he's going to be able to start games instantly as a decent amount time will be required for him to adapt to the rigors of the league. That's my gripe, it's a luxury we cant afford. it's a clever signing in a vacuum but we need a starting right back now not three months from now. Sign him for sure but even a loan for the arsenal dude or someone similar, who can also play midfield would be an ideal stop gap while hes bedding in.
How do you know he needs 3 months or more to bed in. He could be ready to go now.

Even if he has to learn on the job, right now he is a better option than both Coleman and Kenny. As I said in the last post, I'm more concerned about the manager holding him back than I am about throwing him straight in.

Being our worst manager of the PL era on a points per game basis didn’t warrant a strike?

No. I mentioned him first game against us as one we should have had.

He is first rate.

Kenny, Branthwaite...more game time at a higher level who can't get a sniff.

I'm all for him being a big talent. Great.

Unless he's some masterstroke transfer we've got the jump on...he's not going to be Everton's 1st choice RB anytime soon IMO
Kenny has had plenty of chances and simply isn’t good enough, he’ll end up playing for someone like Sunderland or Derby in a year or two! Branthwaite is a far better prospect but isn’t and never will be a right back!
Patterson will be in the team ahead of Coleman before this season has finished!

Yes but before that I can’t imagine many people had seen him play at all, and there certainly would have been doubts cast over signing an unproven youngster as there are with Patterson

To be fair the same could be said about Steve Clarke but he has became less defensive and the team is on the front foot more often.

Whatever happens I just wish him all the best and thank you for the money.

I don’t pay my forum subscription to log on here and see you softening your stance on this boy, David. Where’s the blood and thunder??

Strike one, before he’s even actually signed let alone played a game of football.
