…so sad how you’ve lambasted and written off a young 20 year old with real promise after lecturing genuine Evertonians for 6 months for not giving a chance to what I think is the most obnoxious managerial appointment the club has made in my 65 years.

In this instance, I have little doubt your judgement will be as wide of the mark as it usually is.
I still can't believe that in the last 4 years we've had both Rafael Benitez and Sam Allardyce as Everton managers. Absolutely mind boggling.

Reguillon

All good at both ends

I know you've already written off Patterson for some reason, but he needs to be given a chance, and cup rather than league makes sense. Coleman can't play Saturday Tuesday any more so Patterson today Coleman Tuesday is the sensible call for me.

Its not like Colemans form means he should even play every game anyway. He's making mistakes you would never have seen from him 2 or 3 years ago and too many of them
Good going forward.

For that to happen i think Richarlison would leave. Very hard to cement a position for Gray, Dobbin, Richarlison (Iwobi/Townsend) and Gordon.

Thats a good thing of course but it would be perfect if Gordon and Patterson could be the right side for many years.

Rich almost certainly leaves in the summer and I think it probably strengthens us overall. Gordon - DCL - Gray as a front 3 with the Rich money going on centre backs and midfielders who can tackle and pass.

Perfect game to start Patterson today, Brentford are crap and it means Coleman doesn’t have to play 2 games in quick succession. He’ll be in for Newcastle.

What would he say about Iwobi?
I think Iwobi needs to up his game to even get in the squad now. Same with Rondon. With DCL and Richarlison back from injury, coupled with the emergence of Dobbin and the 2 new signings, we have a squad depth for the forward positions that we haven't seen for a long time. I think Richy will be the cover for DCL up top, and when DCL plays we have 8 players vying for the 3 spots behind him. Iwobi simply has to step up or he'll find himself out of contention.

No chance. This is a must win game.

In that scenario you go with experience.

Coleman will start. And rightly so.
Dave, we have done the Coleman thing to death now. Apart from the odd rare game he simply can't cut it anymore. Poor passing & plenty of mistakes. His experience counts for nothing if he's not playing good enough anymore.
If Patterson is also going to make mistakes then he has a lot of time to rectify these issues & be molded into a better all round player. At some point we have to start that process & the sooner we do it the sooner we benefit from it. What exactly are we getting from yet another lacklustre performance from a guy who should have stopped being in the first 11 three years ago? Coleman is only getting worse. Patterson can be improved.
Now you could argue it's too big a game or too soon for Patterson but everyone in here already knows the performance we will get from Seamus. Maybe, just maybe we get a better game out of him. Time off to energise the batteries & a new manager bounce but we know that won't last long & it just kicks the can of Patterson's development down the road.
It's time for change & you need to give your head a wobble if you can't see that.

New start. We need the cup win to progress to round 5 and a chance of Wembley, but we also need it for the league campaign.

After what's happened it would be a huge deflation if we went out today...and we cant have players learning on the job in a huge game like this.
Agreed. Not a time for experimentation we need to win today to get some momentum to take into Newcastle game.

Think he'll start today, Frank threw James straight in at RB for Chelsea when he had spent the last season at Wigan and he's one of the best full backs in the prem now

…not for me. Richarlison plays from the left if DCL is fit. I actually like him there. Gray has been terrific but I think he’s run out of steam the last month or so. I’m sure Gray will start today & hopefully the batteries are recharged with Lampard coming in.
I agree on Richarlison starting from the left Eggs. But I think you're being a bit unkind on Gray there. I was one of his doubters when we bought him but I'm happy to hold my hands up and say he proved me wrong. He was never going to keep up his early season form when he was arguably one of the best players in the league, but even over the last couple of months, along with Gordon, he's the only player that continued to carry the fight to the opposition. His pace and his ability to run with the ball is a great asset to have which is why I would try and find a place for him in my first choice starting XI. Probably from the right if we're starting Richy on the left. It's a nice problem to have tbh and one of the reasons that, now we have a proper manager in charge, I'm confident that we'll get out of this mess.
