2022/23 Nathan Patterson

Needs to start getting up the pitch and getting in crosses against actual PL defences as opposed to a load of Aussie beach bums and boiler engineers.

…I actually think that’s fair. Before his injury he was excellent defensively but showed little attacking threat. I have wondered if it has something to do with difficulty forming partnerships with the wide players we have, both Godfrey and Gray in particular are both selfish in possession.

Patterson won’t particularly be the type to go past the opposition like Baines did, but he’s got powerful running style that defenders will have trouble with. I think he’ll be fine.

I think he can 'underlap' to good effect. And he seizes on poor passes out the back and can get onto them and head infield toward goal.

Going down the flank however I have zero confidence in him...at this moment in time at least.

…I’ve seen a couple of occasions now (on the overlap) that suggest he can deliver a telling cross. He will get better.

Wow a Davek post that i can half agree with. Progress.

I think it is tactical, ie he is being told not to get too far forward, to let the wingers do it and unless like Davek rightly pointed out he can jump on any mistakes.

At Rangers he was and with Scotland Patterson is told to get forward as much as possible and his starting position is always far higher up the field and that’s why he has almost an assist s game for the national team

That's the difference between you and me: I'm capable of independent non-aligned thought.

Yeah agree with this, his defensive contribution was excellent, his reading of the game to intercept a pass and turn it into a counter attack was excellent and he was good running at defenders particularly in field but his crossing and final ball has been disappointing.

Very Seamus Coleman to be fair except for when Coleman added goals over the Martinez era.

If you had a look at this thread you'd find that my thoughts on Patterson are mixed with praise as well as criticism.

Still, you continue with the caricature commentary.
