Sure he does, and we need to see that. If he doesn't we have a player who can do in the squad already...which is why I'm not concerned about the RB position anymore.
For starters he needs to prove he can stay healthy. His health record is poor from the off. And it’s all well and good if he can pick a pass against Bolton but we need to see it translate to the league. He definitely has the vision but it comes down to dealing with the pressure and the crowd noise. It is not Patterson’s spot by right but he should get the opportunity considering our situation. As you said, he needs to show it. If he doesn’t or he can’t stay healthy, we have Coleman (and even Garner) ready to take his spot.

If Coleman's fit Dyche is going to go with him. He's not fit right now so he may turn to Patterson as starter initially this season as he's had a full pre-season - like last summer really.

I've said before that Patterson's injury record is down maybe to his poor positioning (twisting and turning and lunging in to rescue situations that should never have occurred if he was in the right position to face them).

TBH, I'm factoring in now injuries to both Coleman and Patterson. Inevitable IMO. That's why having Garner as a back up to the back up is so important.

That is a good point and something I did want to mention. I think Patterson has good defensive moments in the sense that he can make those miracle stops, but as you said the lad puts himself in danger of getting injured when he does it. He is clumsy and he doesn’t really protect his body. I can see him getting injured again very easily.

I actually thought he applied himself at the back. They had a tap in and he got his body across their attacker to put it out for a corner. And he kept goalside of the opposition attack for the most part.

That's progress. Let's see if he can carry that on.
Stoke though.

That’s very fair of you Dave considering you didn’t really like him. I was actually disappointed at time with him as Stoke players skipped past him a couple of times. Remembering this was Stoke and not Man City I was a little concerned, but it’s still early days for him…….

Despite all the accusations about agendas I can see he has athleticism and some talent. I've been saying forever that he's been all at sea positionally and until he nails that he'll continue to fail.

Maybe there's been progress on that and Dyche and his coaches have finally got his head screwed on. Time will tell on that.

I was ok with his game today on the defensive side. And he got forward second half too, which he was useless at in the first.

We've had players like Baines, Coleman and Digne in recent years, and this lad has a long way to go to get to that standard.

He obviously has the athletic standard to play as a wing back but too often he makes a surging run forwards then looks clueless about what to do next.

I agree. Needs to get his head up and pick out a blue shirt.

I agree. In his defence imagine busting a lung to get to the byline, looking up and seeing that small French baguette, stale and motionless in there, and Iwobi sauntering in at the edge of the box.

You’d keep your head down next time too lol

In which case you stop and look for a MF arriving into the box.

He has a long way to go.
