I don’t know what the standard of Sligo is, would it be better than youth/reserve in Scotland?

Coleman’s breakthrough season for us at 22 was also at RM and not at RB because of his defensive frailties at the time. It was also a much more settled and solid team that wasnt battling relegation each season. He was a mile off then in terms of RB.

Im a little surprised Patterson didn’t get a run out at RM when we had no wingers available.
When I said breakthrough season I meant when he started to play consistently for the side. That was when he was 22 after his half season at Blackpool. I believe he played fullback immediately after returning and was only use out wide before the loan spell but could be wrong

Yeah, when he came back from Blackpool, he played like 2 seasons at RM for us before moving to RB.

Coleman developed into an excellent right back, after being given lots of time to do so in a much better team than we have now.

Patterson needs time and hope we don’t chase him out before he develops.

22 today.

At what age is someone not a young prospect anymore?

Think around 22 to be honest mate

It is the lack of games. Some 22 year old have had a couple hundred starts. Without looking it would surprise me if has had 50 starts between us and rangers

and thats at teams (and managers) under pressure. As a former international a manager would play him if he thought he'd improve the team. That they havent tells you everything

Just looking at the stats about 90 by the time of his 22 birthday Including 62 at Sligo and 12 at Blackpool. At 22 was his breakthrough season for us.

Patterson has had 39 at Everton and Rangers. I have not seen the breakdown but I expect at least half the 39 are as a sub. On this basis I am not ready to write him off. He is a mile off currently though but has some raw attributes

miles.

Blackpool better than most Scottish Premier League teams other than the champions. Sligo a level below so comparable to Scottish championship I think.

Blackpool are better but he played like 12 games for them before coming back to us and not playing right back for another 2 seasons.
